Door Mirrors: 67-68

What is the proper way to attach the stock exterior mirrors to the doors of a 67-68? is there some way i can get a nut on the other end of the bolt? or are those little plastic inserts that expand when u screw into them the only option. ive had a mirror fall off already

did you try these?

How are those installed? It looks like it would take an awful lot of torque to get those to flare out inside.

I've seen a tool for installing threaded inserts similar to those. It screws into the insert and sorta works like a pop rivet gun to pull the backside up tight. Some body shops even have them and might help you out.

Rivnuts. I bought a Rivnut gun as well. Works like a pop rivet. You can buy te rivnuts at your local hardware store and not pay the stupid money for being "mustang specific".

They also make rubber rivnuts (also known as well nuts). Stay AWAY from those. I had them for a while and almost lost my passenger side mirror from the car. Do a search here and you can probably find my post on them (with pics of course).
