Droid X cell phone review

Just upgraded our phones over the weekend. Both Deb and I had 1st gen smart phones that weren't really that smart!

Bought 2 - Droid X's so I could always work on, explain, etc...the phone to Deb.

These things are AWESOME!! The things that they are capable of doing is exactly what we needed. They open all the types of files we need XLS, Doc's, PDF's, we can get all our email, pics etc...even her K-State mail which was a PITA and spotty with her old phone. It's larger and easier to read with my aging eyes. The battery life isn't all that great if you have it on and using it a lot, but that's what they make chargers for.

Finally, I can leave the house and not have to take my laptop if I don't want to.

and........I get those hot pics from J again.

Where do I sign up? They better not be of J though. :nk

Congrats on the upgrades Mark, I have only heard that they are really great phones. Have fun with the new endless things that can be done on those things, like taking pictures at the track.

Pete, Pete, Pete...they're just phones, not GOD.

SWMBO recently got the Droid since the X was on 2 week back order. We love them. I think I use the daylights out of mine and SWMBO doesn't use it all that much.

I get weather updates, search for phone numbers and many other things. Laptop is almost obsolete.

Today I searched for and found a specialized switch for the bus, was able to buy it and get it and install it, today!

I just got a HTC Evo about a week ago. Moving up from the blackberry, I have to say the leap is exponential in capability. One of the hands down coolest apps is the google sky map. I love it. Also, unlike the bb, I can surf stangfix and see the real page, as opposed to the crappy mobile version on bb's browser. The home pages are laid out really well, everything is very intuitive. I'm probably already more comfortable with this new phone and the Droid OS after a week than I was with the bb after 6 months.

+1 on everything. I recently went from a BB to the HTC Incredible. The BB was made for more of business use and not for the average user. The only thing that I miss from the BB is they have a better calendar program, and you can set individual email/message notifications for contact (or at least I haven't figured that one out yet).

But how much is internet service for these droids?

I have unlimited....everything so I had to get a second mortgage for the phone bill.

Seriously, it's the same coverage I've had for 3 years. Unlimited text, pic and data for both of us, about $150 including the $75 in taxes :rp

Ditto. Mines with Sprint.

The unlimited internet was an additional $30 per month per phone. So now with four phones, two droids with internet two regular phones one with $10 a month limited use internet we pay about $170 with Verizon.

Also must say that in the west Verizon is the best for coverage. If you only use it in the city then any of them is OK.

I've got 3 iPhones on my account and am over 200 a month. Makes me sick...but what can I say, I'm the sucker for signing up.

Funny thing, I'm the technology geek and routinely use less than 200 MB of data per month. And I hacked my phone so I can tether my laptop over it. My wife and daughter both are in the 1.5 Gig range. So they use 7x more data per month than I do.

I think I'm doing it wrong.

So do you guys pay for internet at home AND for the phone? I've thought about getting one of those usb modem whatchamacallits through verizon and dropping the net at the house (phone co.) but by the time I get it and add the service to the cells I'm not saving any money. With Verizon so any tips would be appreciated.

Unfortunately, yes. The convenience is worth it though. I'm not paying for cable or a land line so that helps.

I have my net and 2 lines with the local phone co. It's all bundled together with unlimited calling and 1.5 meg DSL line. That runs me $144/mth. The cell phones are completely separate with Verizon. I'm waiting to see what the new FO phone lines are like before I make any more changes.

Here's my 3 week review on the X

This phone frigg'n rocks! It does everything I need and does it quite well! All my emails, docs, spreadsheets...I get them all and can read them. Tools, apps and I just loaded all my music from itunes into it. No more carting my Nano with me!!

On a scale of 1-10 I'd have to give it a 9+ :coo

Best part is that you can actually make calls on it.

Ditto on the Evo. Wife has the Samsung Epic. We are both extremely pleased with the Android OS and ease of use with these phones. I'm out of town right now so we just tried the video chat out and it works great!

Maybe we should start a cool Android App topic.

But it didn't call you and tell you the engine was about to go............
