Engine running too hot on hwy, overheated when parked

Seems odd not to have any pressure build up, as a pressurized system will raise the boil point of coolant.
I would use a coolant system pressure tester and let it sit pressurize for a few hours while checking for small leaks or drips and drop off.
Even the hoses can weep air and coolant over time. But having no pressure build up would have me chasing it to find out why.

I did just that and did find a couple of hose leaks. It has dropped about a .5 lb in 30 mins but could be the pressure tester at the radiator cap. Anyhow, I dont want to distract from OP's issue. I agree, the low pressure sure seems like it could be key to my problem

It seems it was just a bubble escaping after all. i went back out and started it up a couple hours later and observed the coolant. no flow while cold. then as the temp gauge hit mid way i saw the coolant start flowing left to right so it seems all is good, :) thanks for all your input guys, thats why i love this forum, everyone is always eager to help.

If all else fails, presuming you have an OEM radiator, replace with an aftermarket model. Ever since I put one of those Northern aluminum ones in the D-coder, it runs like an iceberg. It used to run a lot like you're describing with the OEM rad.

+1

I just upgraded not long ago to a four row aluminum and I also added the Summit high flow water pump when my old water pump crapped out on me. Also added the five blade fan.

First time I've been able to run the car down the road, turn it off then turn it back on a few minutes later and let it sit and idle. Temp gauge never goes above half way on the stock gauge.

Still haven't added a fan shroud because I keep forgetting to order a larger spacer for the fan. Currently, if I put the fan on it would hit the bottom of the shroud. I need to put a longer / larger spacer on it so it will clear the shroud. Wouldn't hurt my feeling to get my fan closer to my radiator but just keep getting side tracked with other things and haven't ordered the spacer.
