Well, I've gone and done it.
After a long period of consideration while the car was in the care of the California Auto Museum for their Mustang exhibit, I decided to post my '67fb for sale on Friday evening.
I've had that car for longer than I haven't, since 2001, and I've been a part of this group going all the way back to the old Fomoco forum.
The car was my daily and project for 8+yrs, and was a great hot rod during that time, but going back to school necessitated storing it for several years. And due to family and finances after school, I just never dove back into it after that. I always loved it, but it was too much of a hot rod for my wife to enjoy, it started requiring more and more attention to keep it reliable and safe, and any sort of cosmetic improvements were off the board due to the body work needed.
So when the museum asked me to come pick the car back up, and considering I hadn't terribly missed it during the ~10mo it was gone, I decided to let it go.
So onto Facebook Marketplace it went on Friday evening, aided by some pictures and video taken when it was all cleaned up at the museum.
In between Friday evening and yesterday morning, I had over a dozen serious inquiries (and a dozen more "Hi, is this still available?", which I stated in the listing would be deleted from my inbox), and set up a meeting with the first serious buyer at noon. Guy drove up from Modesto after a conversation about not being flexible on pricing due to the overwhelming interest. We met, drove the car around, and agreed upon asking price (easy conversation, considering the three other buyers who were begging me to put them first in line), and off he drove. I assume he made it home OK on the weather checked front tires because I haven't heard from him.
Not really sure how I feel about it. As mentioned, I've had it for quite a while, and it provided a lot of good memories.
But at the same time, I haven't been giving it the love it deserves.
Too late now, though.
However, I'm not sure I'm totally out of the mustang club. One of my potential options is to keep my eyes out for an earlier coupe in good shape, something that would be easier to get in and drive to work or around town on the weekends, that my wife would appreciate more (first gen coupes are "cuter") and that I could still throw mods and upgrades at.
So if anyone sees something that fits the bill, I wouldn't mind taking a look at it:
'66 coupe

M/T (i still have a 5sp conversion project on the shelf)
M/S (planned EPAS upgrade)
