fender flares

I've been rolling around the idea of adding fender flares front and rear. I want them to be metal. In my searching I ran across this... http://mustangforums.com/forum/classic- ... res-2.html

He says he used the flares off a astro van. I'm sure I could pick up 8 fenders pretty cheap. What's your thoughts on this. I'm not exactly sure how to accomplish it really. I've got a general idea, but not sure.

It may be just for looks. I am planning on flaring my fenders about 1.5" with a hammer and dolly. That way I can use a larger tire and rim. I can see how easy adding the Astor vans lips if there were cut off with a Plasma and keeping a good smooth edge and if the radius is spot on. It is a nice addition if not too big.

have you seen the $5000 budget mustang on protouring? he did it with newer mustang fenders i believe. Went through the step by step too. pretty neat.

That's the reason for flaring, I think. 17x9's up front. I definitely want them functional. He used two fenders per flare, it appears.

What about using quarter skins ?
Quater skins for making the rear flares .
Cutting the wheelwell where inner meets outer , and weld a strip metal in place so the outer wheelwell will come out.

I don't know if this can help ,Bill.

IMO , if you do it , do it the right way because cheap work will ruin ( less value) your car.

Stay of the section where the quarter panel meet the outer wheelwell. The wheelopening lip.Keep this intact.
Just cut the quarter a few inches from the arc , cut in the wheelwell where inner meets outer wheelwell , bring it ( the loose piece ) outboard as far as you like a fill the gaps with sheetmetal.
You can use cardboard to make templates and later on , when it fit the gap , you can duplicate it to sheetmetal.
Hope you have an idea of what I mean.

Makes sense, I was thinking along those lines, just using the flares from astro as the outer leading edge line.
