Found a windshield!

Yeah I had planned on buying the bulk packs of weatherstripping I've seen for the whole car since I'll need to replace it all anyway.
If I can get this windshield, then all I need is to get a new cowl vent and Gert will be waterproof! :yah

Geez.. I didn't know they were so valuable... must have 3 or 4 of them kicking around up here... didn't offer one to you because it's so far.

I've been needing a windshield ever since I got Gert. It wasn't on my top priorities of things to fix right away, but I figured I'm going to have to bump the windshield up on the list since it has to come out when I put in a new cowl which is on top of the "to do" list. The cracked one I have now wouldn't survive removal as damaged as it is.

the green lines show where the cracks are. Luckily it still legal to drive with it since it doesn't impair driver visibility.

I'm pretty sure I pay less than $200 for the new glass... right around $160 if my memory serves me correctly.

Kat,

Inspect the used glass carefully. If the glass was in such great condition, why is the seller replacing it? Or is he parting out a car?

I've looked for new ones and they all seem to be $200+. I assume he's parting out a car. When I did a search for his phone number several listings came up for random 65/66 mustang parts.. including the whole mustang itself.
I'm going to say the windshield is this one.

Aside from the obvious cracks and rock chips, used glass may have minor pitting as a result of blowing sand... or major pitting from a sandblaster. A die grinder kicking up sparks from grinding/cutting metal will also ruin a windshield. Lastly, if the used glass is old the safety glue within the glass will have discolored... usually moreso around the edges of the glass. All I'm saying is to inspect the glass carefully before handing over your money. Take a bottle of Windex and some towels with you and CLEAN the glass thoroughly to help identify any imperfections.

I once installed a door glass during a restoration and didn't find out until after I thought that the restoration was done and I was washing the dust off the car that the door glass had been left unprotected during a previous owners sandblasting effort. I assumed it was just some minor paint overspray that I could easily remove.... yeah, you can't "fix" glass that has been hit with a sandblaster and the whole door had to come back apart to replace the damaged glass.

Well I suck at inspecting things but I have another idea! :roll

Anyone in Katy TX or around there willing to go check out the windshield for me (and maybe lower his price lol)? I'd hate to drive over an hour down there just to check out the glass and find its messed up or something.

He's parting it out. He was trying to sell the car as a project for a while but then no interest = parting out. Yeah...ok so I look at the auto section of Craigs list way too much :roll

Hmmmmm.....cost of the used glass plus time and gas to drive 1 hour there and 1 hour back......cost of new glass installed by a shop at your home..... I would really consider what you are doing. I HATE used glass.............

kat, if you know anyone travelling near nashville sometime i can get you a new one for not much more than that used on is priced on CL. i installed glass for about 20 yrs & still get stuff at a discount. letr me know & i'll check a price..

Don't do it Kat. I can probably get you a new glass including installation for the price of that windshield and the gas to get to Katy and back. Call me before you decide to drive to Katy.

Doug

Well fine then. I won't bother with that one in Katy. :nut

Doug, thanks. Right now I only need the glass. I was going to set it aside in the garage for now. Installation will have to wait until the cowl is replaced.

Or.... you could offer the guy $25 for it... they're not all that hard to swap if you're not using the bedding compound, the windshield seal is less than $20 so basically disposable. for a couple hours and low cost you could have a clear(er) view...

all he could say is no, right?

Stop by my shop. I have a FREE :yah windshield for you. And it's in great shape too!

Doug

:yah You rock Doug!!! I'll stop by Tue. afternoon. Got a job interview in the morning.

Give me your address. I'll mail you a Scott Drake gasket I fitted but didn't use. I thought it didn't fit right, so I bought a different brand, and the other brand fit exactly the same as the SD one did. If you want it, its yours.
