I keep seeing people handing out at shopping centers asking for help.

I approach them and say "I will gladly pay you to wash my car (not the Mustang) or mow my lawn or pull weeds." and that pretty much scares them away.

WTF, over?

Friend of mine in Tucson went thru about 20 of those type saying he had palm trees that they could trim for a home cooked meal. Most ran faster than you would think possible. Some actually showed up wanting to eat first.....then he found one who ended up being good and became his regular yard man.

Those who want help, will find help. Those who rather sit on their @$$ and beg for "help", don't need it.

There is a lady that sits outside the local McDonald's near where I work and begs for money. She has a sign that says she has fibromyalgia and can't work. She is out there in the freezing cold during winter too. The local news did a story on her and reported that McDonald's offered her a job as well as several other local business' but she refused them. She just wants a free ride. I have fibromyalgia too and I know some days it is hard to get out of bed and go to work, but I do it. Rumor has it that she deposits about $200 dollars a day into her bank account. I don't know why people give to her, she is just a lazy freeloader. I keep telling my employees that I should should sit across the street from her with a sign that says I have fibromyalgia too and a real job, don't give the :censored any money!

I'll send you $20.00 if you do this and post a picture of the two of you next to each other!

I don't think $20 would cover bail.

I bet I could get my assistant to do it though.

Now were talking. But the money can go to the fix as a donation.

I just drove by on my way in too work, and she must have moved to a different corner. I will have my staff look for her. They live in town.

I had to really think about this before responding, but I fall prey to "some" of these ~ I hate to use the expression "freeloaders" as there are some out there that are truly desperate! I went out of my way to give 5 bucks to a one legged man, actually quite good looking! However I have gone out of my way to avoid a homeless person at a redlight or always try to get the green light so I won't be stopped~ rarely works! I've never had one of them that didn't appreciate whatever I gave he or she! The most difficult thing in life is asking for money whether it be from family, friend or other>. Been there and done that!

I would think there are more and more homeless and we are bound to see genuine people needing funds/money/food. We drive around in our nice cars, eat out frequently, have "toys", our college age girls have nice apartments, cars, debit cards(we pay for this of course)! If something were to happen and we had to live under a bridge and beg for food~ I'd hate to know people were thinking what a freeloader I am, when in reality, I'm a good person that had bad luck in life and wound up in the sewer!~ I wouldn't last long!

I had a lady come up to us while we were loading a car with whatever at a Lowes, she said she needed a few dollars for gas, that she had run out. She walked away in a haphazzardly direction~ she didn't have a car, but she must have needed the money!

Perhaps the people that are true freeloaders, really need the money(humans in general are black holes for money anyway), and I can't say that I'd blame them if they didn't want to work at McDonalds. I applied at a Home Depot a few years ago, just wanted to try something different, but you don't get to talk to a human, it's all computerized as many companies have gone to humanless interviewing system~ sick if you ask me, (sick meaning~ despicable, disrespectful to fellow humans!), I never did get a call!

I see pretty much the same folks at intersections~ and would like to see some of them have a job! If I were super rich, I think I'd take a select few and see if I could get them into the contributing work force~! Some~ just can't be helped, don't want to be helped, etc.
I wonder how many homeless people there are? or "freeloaders"?

I would venture to say that most of the panhandlers you encounter are there as as profession. When you see the same people time and again over the course of weeks or months begging at the corner, etc. there is a very high probability they have made a job of it.

Get off I55 heading East into Chicago at Cicero (Midway airport exit) and you will most likely meet a woman who has "just run out of gas with her kids in the car and....." I say most likely because I see her almost every week when I fly out. When I return I get to deal with those guys who like to wash the windshield of my clean car. Or the guy selling peanuts, or fruit, whatever.

The frustrating part about people like this is the amount of effort they put into their "jobs". It wouldn't take a whole lot more to get a real job. And Dne', a job at McDonald's is not a bad thing. I know a handful of people who went from making fries to running the places. One of them owns a franchise now. It's all about what a person makes of the opportunities they are presented.

I know this area well also. I hate when the windshield guys just start washing even when you say no... anyway I see the same thing around a lot of the airports I fly in and out of. They obviously could get real jobs if they can walk around on the street all day. I was refueling my rental car in Sacramento near the airport and a guy came up to me with a story about needing a car part for his car that stranded him. I offered to go get the part for him if he told me what he needed. He just walked away.

At corner near my office there are several panhandlers. One young guy is missing both legs and is in a wheelchair with a US Marine sticker on the back. I gave him some money because I figured he was a down and out veteran and needed food, clothing etc. Several days later I saw him in the convenience store at the same corner and he was buying lottery scratch off tickets with a wad one dollar bills. Hell, I don't waste my money on those things and I'm pretty well off.

Yes, WTF is right! So you see some guy that is so desperate that he has resorted to pan-handling and your first thought is to bring him home to do some of your chores? I'm not sure I agree with the logic in your thought process.... I can see it going something like this...

"And out here in the garage is where I keep the lawnmower. You won't be needing that shovel buddy as they'll be no digging involved. So, to start the lawnmower...."

4 hours later.... "Why am I laying on the garage floor with blood dripping from the back of my head?"

Five minutes later... "WTF happened to all of the stuff I had in the garage?"

30 minutes later at the hospital.... "No nurse, you don't understand! I have ID and medical insurance, I just can't seem to find my wallet."

There is usually a VERY good reason why people are homeless and it usually comes down to bad life choices. Call me a cold-hearted bastard, but I have zero sympathy for these people. I've discussed this with friends and there's always someone who brings up the "young family who loses everything they own in an apartment fire". That's what renters insurance is for.... but they couldn't afford that .... but they could afford cable TV and cell phones? It's not that they couldn't afford to.... it's that they chose not to. 99.9999% of the time it all comes down to making bad choice(s). I'm not here to reward anyone for their stupidity. That's what the welfare system is for.
