Having Max put down this morning.

Rod,
Though I expected this to happen, I was really hoping for a miracle. Very Very sorry my friend.
Go play with your other doggies and give them love. They will help ease the pain.

There is no shame in either crying over his loss, or in having your wife make the call. If you didn't grieve for him, that would mean that his life didn't touch you as it did. Our pets are more "intimate" with us than our spouses even, to some degree.
couldn't have said it better. Sorry to hear the sad news.

I am so sorry to hear the news. I had a similiar experience about 5 years ago. I think it was harder to loose my dog than some of my elderly family members. I know that sounds terrible to say but it's the truth.

Both Toni and I are so sorry to hear this as is everyone on this forum.
I had to break it to Toni gently since she kept a close watch and I knew
she would get emotional if this was the outcome. Remember, you put Max
before yourself which is a courageous and honorable...and Max knows that too.

Sorry to hear about Max! I know what your going thru, and it's tough hard time! :(
I hope you'll be back to your joke telling self soon!

I'm sorry to hear this, Rod, and you have my sympathies. It's such a downer to experience losing our little friends, since they get so far under our skin....

Terrible news. Like the other SF'ers, I was hoping Max would pull through. Over the years, I've lost my share of furry friends to old age and illness.Saying good buy never gets easier. A few years back, within a few months, SWMBO and I lost the first two dogs we owned together. It really sucked.

For Xmas that year, I gave some dog photos to a local artist who painted a picture of them. It came out better than expected. It was a good way for us to get through that phase, and the painting still makes us smile.

I struggled with whether or not this was the right thing to do. Rick convinced me it was.

So Rod, when your tag order comes in you will find this enclosed. Max is officially member number 5.
I violated the database and overwrote a deleted member and gave him the lowest number possible.
He is also the only member other than myself with that date code.

It's really meaningless in the big picture, but I hope it helps.

Sluggo, I was thinking the same thing, I just didn't know if it would be appropriate. I am happy to see you didn't need my suggestion! That is way cool!

Max has loads of friends here, as do you! Hang in there and keep him alive with your memory and maybe a Mustang doghouse with a new tag on it.

Sorry to hear about this. Reminds me of my big dog Zeke that we had to put down about a year ago. Very tough to do, but it is the final act of kindness to end their pain.

Rod, I'm sorry to hear of Max's troubled health. The last time I was on line I thought I read he was coming around. Please know that you and your family have my most sincerest heartfelt condolences on the loss of your beloved friend. I'll pray that one day, you and Max will meet again at the rainbow bridge.

Sluggo. You're the man. That is awesome.

Good ole Max is right behind me. I'm honored.

You could sleep soundly, he would not let anyone sneak up on you, county cop friend of mine just left and he went through the night he was going to go into the house when max was inside and I was out in the garage. He said max scared 10 years off his life. Several friends have said they miss him. We got a nice sympathy card yesterday from the vets office signed from all the staff.
