Help me decipher this tire size...

I have an illustration client that has listed his future tire size as 26/8.5 R/17 for the front and 11.5/28 R/17 for the rear. Am I missing something here? I get the 17" wheel diameter but what it the sidewall size? Low profile or not? :shrug

i would guess the front is a 26" tall tire thats 8.5" wide on a 17" rim, rear would be 28" tall & 11.5" wide on a 17" rim. is it a truck? truck tires are sometimes listed like that.

going by those sizes, i would say a 225/50-17 would be close to the front size & a 285/50-17 to hit the 28" in height on the rear.

You'd think it was a truck tire, that's what I thought too but, nope. Going on a car. Modified '74 Duster with.....wait for it.....a Hemi. I'll post a pic when I'm done.
