How much does your Mustang weigh?

It was free "dump your crap" day at the landfill yesterday. I took all the old carpet and drywall and crap from my basement repair to the dump. They have you weigh coming in and as you leave. While waiting for the thumbs up that I could go, I had a thought. I asked if I could bring my Mustang back and get it weighed. They said sure, so I did. It weighed 3,780 lbs with me and a half tank of fuel. Estimating gas weighs about 6.5#/gal @ 8 gal = 52# and I am about ~225# so the car is about 3500#'s. That seamed heavy to me because a stock 67 hardtop is around 2800 IIRC. However, my 429 is about 300-400#'s more than a 289 and the C6 is heavier than a C4 and the 9" is heavier than an 8" etc. etc.
Anyway, has anyone else got a weight on your Stang?

2900 (according to the title). No clue if it was weighed and when or if they just put down the avg stock 289 66 mustang weight.

yeah, I see a lot of "specs" on weight but was wondering about actual. Kat, that number is not far off, my dad has a 66/289 and he had it weighed a long time ago and I think that's what he got.

Also think about if that scale was totally accurate, I scrap all the time and I swear alot of the time it's off by a decent amount.. I think the best place would prob be a racetrack with a weigh in...

Truck scales at the truck stops have to be certified. I would try there.

And my 65 weighs way too much with me in it!

Good question. I've read many conflicting reports on weight, so I to would like to see what results real people are getting.

I know on one site about engine weights it had the 2.3l turbo engine weighing as much as a cast iron headed 302, which was bunk since I had weighed each engine for myself.

If anyone is interested I might be able to find that sheet of paper with all of my recorded engine weights.

I didn't think to ask if they were certified (the scale), it was a landfill not a scrap yard. I figured they would want an accurate weight of the crap coming in on semi's. First Saturday of the month, you can bring a pick-up load for free but usually it's garbage trucks and those big waste haulers.
Anyway, I'll ask at the track next time I go. I haven't raced my car so I don't know if I can get back there with it to get it weighed.

We have a tech section, that would be cool to post it in there. I'm sure it would be handy to know...

I was afraid to see what my car weighed with me in it but there was a line of pick-ups waiting to dump stuff so I didn't want to ask them to wait for me to jump out and off the scale!

I have track scale weighed mine many times, 2850 with a full 15 gals and me not in it.

Also, what engine are you using, alum heads, intake, etc? Thanks.

Our 65 coup is 3100 with the Cleveland motor, full interior, roll bar, sub frames, large sway bars etc. and a tank of gas.

Let's see if I can remember.

Full interior minus the back seat, heater box and radio. 6pt cage, 2 race seats and harnesses, rear window is R Model Plexiglas, side windows are Lexan, hood is f-glass, front bumper and related parts replaced with R Model type apron.

The engine is a 289 with 66 iron heads, air gap alum intake, steel driveshaft, 9" rear, alum flywheel, toploader, alum fuel cell, front discs are Lincoln type and stock rear 2" drums. All the wheels are 15x7 TTD's.

3300 with my tail in it and a full tank of fuel..... Remember, I am Norwegian and our people's bone density is much higher than all other races....

So specifically your tail bone is ~400lbs. is what I'm reading...that would put your car at the required 2900!
and I thought I heard all of the ways to say 'hey, I'm not heavy, I'm big boned'

My 66 coupe with roll bar and subframe connectors weighs 3172lbs with 160lbs of me in it and half a tank of gas with my street tires, about 40lbs less with my track tires/wheels.

so far...
silverblueBP 66 FB = 2850 w/fuel (Full interior minus the back seat, heater box and radio. 6pt cage, 2 race seats and harnesses, windshield & rear window is R Model Plexiglas, side windows are Lexan, hood is f-glass, front bumper and related parts replaced with R Model type apron. The engine is a 289 with 66 iron heads, air gap alum intake, steel driveshaft, 9" rear, alum flywheel, toploader, alum fuel cell, front discs are Lincoln type and stock rear 2" drums. Opentracker 65 Coupe = 3100 w/fuel
opentrackersteve 65 Coupe = 3300 w/fuel and driver, 351C, full interior, roll bar
Shaun 66 Coupe = 3172 w/roll bar, sub-frame connectors, half tank and driver

Did I get all those right? Most have full interior and roll cages, subframe connectors, etc.

I don't have a roll cage but I do have a subframe connectors and full "stock" interior. So does 3500 seam heavy even though it's an iron head BB? I do have no front bumper or brackets, FG hood and trunk lid, aluminum driveshaft, no PS, headers, ... hmmm

Great topic. I've been wondering about this myself as I am reduced to bench racing for yet another season.

A few of the really big differences will be in wheels (steel vs. aluminum), brakes (drum vs disc and also size), interior (rear seat delete) and engines (aluminum heads, intakes, headers, etc.).

I would have guessed most modded 65/66 would come in around a little lighter, maybe 2700-2800 lbs. I'm waiting for a couple more FB to chime in to see where they end up in relation to the coupes. Kinda funny when all the specs I've found state stock closer to 2800 or even less.

Mark, how much weight does the rear plexi save you? Unless your running some bare bones fiberglass seats I wouldn't imagine they save you too much, right? I'd bet the heater box and reduced coolant quantity saved you at least as much. I was really surprised at how little the stock seats weigh.

Shaun, what does your car have for an interior?

I think my seats weigh 22lbs each. I can't remember what the rear p-glass weighs, but it ain't much! I forgot to add my windshield is p-glass to.
