I think part of that damage is due to the level at which the car hit the Pontiac at. The offending vehicle came over a curb and bushes which placed the bumper of it above the floor line of the Pontiac, thus missing an important part of an old car strength. Not that it would be any better in any other coupe........
Anybody that restores old cars sees the lack of upper body structure and crumple zones which make new cars safer.
I cannot think of any direction I would want to be hit from in an older car........
