I need some ideas for a car show!

There's a car show this Satuday here in Bryan TX and since I have nothing else really to do (and it's a good excuse out of doing housework), I think I might actually put Gertrude in the show. I called the club to get info about the under construction class and the show itself. I said I've never been to a show before and the president was saying that from the sounds of it, my stang would be best put in the under construction class. He also told me that they award points for displays. That most just park the car, open the hood and that's it, but if I added a display it earns points. He said some have posters, photo albums of before/after pics, magazines from the year, etc. Basically give it 'a womans touch' to give it some personality and to draw attention.

I need ideas please. Something I can pull off by Saturday morning. :beg

I don't know, a wet tee shirt would get points with me... but I'm not a judge ;)

Kidding... I usually see photo albums with progress pics, Models of what the car is going to look like.
Good luck!

Don't think it didn't cross my mind to run around in a tank top and short shorts. :lol

Dangit. I wish I had thought about it sooner. :po I could have looked for old 1966 memorabilia like a Playboy magazine from 66! I actually saw a car with some playboys at a car show not long ago. Made me giggle.

Wait, I think I might have an idea. Vietnam veterans theme maybe? An American Flag, some dog tags... military paraphernalia from the era. My husband being former USMC, I could use his dog tags. He also has a kevlar helmet. I could pick up a few things as well from the local military surplus store. Something to represent and give honor to those veterans and those who never left the jungle.

Would that be something that would work as a display?

A chrome pole, scented candles & video's...... er...wrong forum.

How about a bunch of before and after pics.

I don't have any before and after pics worth showing. Pictures of new coil springs isn't all that exciting and wouldn't take up much room in an album or on a board. :lol

You know, there's a saying amongst Marine's that there was only ever one thief in the Marine Corps, and everybody else is just trying to get their stuff back. Tell your husband that he started the ripple by keeping that kevlar, he might laugh.

How about some yellow caution tape and some orange cones? Really work the construction angle.

The Vet display sounds like a good idea!

Do the Vet thing for sure.....and you can dress the part of hot pants and go-go boots.

Oh I like that idea too!!

Well, to complete the setting, you will have to fit the time period with some fashion style from '66. Those type displays always attract attention when there is a real person fitting in. You could go in some old coveralls and greasy........

Not to sound harsh, but I think if you were going to do a Vietnam type display, it should be from the heart and not just to win points on a "theme" (and I'm not saying it isn't, just kinda' comes across that way). I have very strong feelings about that war and have lost many family members from it as well as everyone else in this country. If you want to do it to honor the Vietnam Vet's, then by all means. If it is just a angle to get points, then go with something else. JMO.

The military idea came to me because of something my husband did to Gertrude. He put one of his Eagle Globe & Anchors on her fender. The vets theme would be to honor my family members who have served. My husband. Both his grandfathers. One of which was there on the beach at Normandy. My mother who served 20yrs in the Navy. My grandfather who did 20 in the Army. I have a very special place in my life for military. Plus I was thinking it would help promote my car clubs car show which is in October that is called American Heroes Street Meet & Rod Run (military/veterans theme) where proceeds are being donated to help veterans of the military.

Kat, that is a fine way to honor all veterans and I think it would do well. I guess it was the statement of "Wait, I think I might have an idea" that threw me off. I, as well as you, know we should and do hold the up most respect for our service men and women. My thanks to your husband and the rest of your family for their service.

My apologies for making it sound that way. I was sitting here thinking of what would represent me and my mustang. My mustang means a lot to me because it took over 10yrs to finally get one and I wouldn't have gotten it without my husband and I love him for putting up with me and my crazy ways. Then I remembered there's still a piece of his USMC uniform as an emblem on the fender and then the idea came to me. :)
