Is your wife ready for you to die?

This is for her folks and my folks on the off chance she and I were killed in the same car wreck or something along those lines.

Excellent advice. I have everything in one of my safes and my dad has the extra key and combo. Update the godparents, trustees, and executor as necessary. Not only do situations change, but people change also.

Well I know of at least 1 husband on here who is not...hint hint. Although he is probably afraid that time will come sooner for him and his horse (who I threaten to shoot daily) if there is a benefit ;)

My co-worker's father passed suddenly earlier this year and left his non-working wife with nothing but a reverse mortgage that didn't have her name on it, so it means she is losing the house that her and her mother-in-law live in, in a few months. You rarely expect to die, don't let you last act be leave your loved ones with more than just your loss if you can prevent it.

Another alternative you can take which excludes any mention of financial responsibilites is a Advanced Healthcare Directive or a Durable Power of Attorney. Both these documents allow you to detail specific wishes in regards to your healthcare and also provide you the ability to empower a person(s) of your choice to make medical decisions for you in regards to things that you didnt specify.

I have had a Advanced Healthcare Directive since I was 18 and have had to make a few due to crossing state lines and getting married and then divorced. Most of these documents are State specific so please look into the legal details in your region.
