John and his Colorado friend...
Can you name this StangFixer? Hint he's not around here much so maybe only the Knott's attendees would recognize him.

They aren't leathers. Its a light grey textile suit.

so you had to wear it .... kinda like a contamination suit.... because you were traveling through Nevada/the desert.... where the government did all of their weird testing back in the '50's?

I'm trying to envision someone wearing that getup walking into one of our local biker hangouts, but can't. It's too bloody to imagine.

Its for those that actually RIDE their motorcycle not for putting over to the local bar or coffee joint to sit and look at their chrome.
Many riders on the road wear full suits for all weather protection when actually riding distance.
Bikers come in all versions....many on the road that I saw were HDs from all over the country. Extremes were the German and Italian guys renting HDs from Vegas and riding the west, bragged about doing 2,000 in a week to which I responded we just did 471 in a day. Of course they could only do 120 miles at a time because, well its a lot of miles. :lol
Then there was a guy in Utah from Vermont on his Goldwing. He was a Iron Butt participant and finisher. This guy has done 1,500 miles in 24 hrs and had the bike with the farkles to prove it.
I'm basically between these two extremes. Riding to a local bar to act like a biker or riding less than 200 miles before lunch is a waste of time.

My wife and I used to do 1000 mile days on our Gold Wing. Never entered and contest because we pushed those miles if we felt like it. Other days, we did 500 or so. We have been known to ride from Tucson Az. to Albq. NM. and back the same day just to be at the opening of a new Dairy Queen. That was a "thing" for one organization I was in. We did more than 10-15,000 miles a year on the bike. Having the proper riding gear for you is vital in doing any long trips. Improper gear and you are beat when you stop.....good gear and you feel alive at supper. We do miss the riding now but just not meant to be at this time.

Its for those that actually RIDE their motorcycle....

I knew when I responded that you'd lay right back into me.... and you're exactly right. When I ride.... the 5-6 times a year.... I ride with a t-shirt. If it's too cold for a t-shirt, screw it, I ain't riding and we'll take something with four wheels underneath us. 1000 miles in a day? Not me buddy, I'm sore and hating life if I do 200.

200???? :nk
Hell boy that's hardly worth puttin' gas in the thing. :lol

I must say though that most bikes on the open road are HDs. I respect anybody that rides no matter what bike and really on the open road all bikers talk to each other at stops. If you're out there you all know what you're going through.

Mike, I believe you have soiled your textile suit.... Looks like a nice bike trip.

Darn it, my post was late getting in. Maybe my "Smart phone" isn't very smart.

Mike, I've been to all those locations many times. I want to do a small group to all those and then some in April. My Mom would like to see them and I have time that time of year, so if I do a small group then I can drive it and guide it and have some real fun while we are at it.

I heard Johnpro was packing for another trip next week!!!! Better pack light, I hate heavy luggage!

Mel
