Looking for some Mustang identification clarification

According to the following site (http://www.mustangdecoder.com/instructions.html) Mustangs had some kind of trick to identifying some things about it using the VIN if you didn't have the warranty plate.

Fred had the DS door replaced from a 66 and no warranty plate anywhere. So I type in the VIN and get the following information.

5-1965
R-San Jose
0Y-code not found
C-289 2v V8
(Remaining numbers are just the unit number)

The main reason I ask is because I am trying to figure out the color Fred was originally, Fred's interior was blue as you can tell from the photographs on the build thread and as I was removing the radio I noticed the white paint in this photograph.

In this photograph you can see that the cowl side panel is also painted white.

I had originally thought it was silver blue metallic only because of the Y in the VIN and because I wanted to be cool like Mark................ :DD :sbbp

The third and fourth digits should be 07, 08, or 09, representing the body style.

Could you have possibly mis-read the 07 (coupe) as 0Y?
 
I believe the pink says 07, alll the apron stamps have 0Y.

The 07 denotes you have a coupe. Yes, that's 07 in that picture...

The full 11 digit VIN will give you NO hints as to original paint color or interior color. It will help with a date range.
 
does it have a buck tag on it? sometimes those have additional info... Mine was on the radiator support, it was built in Dearborn. Not sure if they did that at all plants.
 
San Jose cars didn't use buck tags that year. I'm guessing the car was originally white, color code M and the interior was medium blue std, 22.

For the DSO, it will have to be a guess unless you have original paper work. Although, even knowing the selling dealer does not guarantee that the DSO has to be for that district. Dealer's swapped/traded cars just like they still do today.
 
Thanks for the clarification guys. I did try typing in 07 into one of those decoder programs online and it did state that it was a 2 door hardtop.

I guess this only makes me more comfortable painting the car whatever color I want when the time comes.
 
Wimbledon white is a very nice color on early Stangs.

You mentioned you had the original black plates, correct? What are the letters on the plates? I may be able to give you a clue as to where the car was originally registered (what city). Black plates were assigned to various DMVs by letter block and that information is out there.

Wimbledon white with some blue stripes? Sounds like GT colors if I am not mistaken. LoL

Thanks for the offer Frank, the letters on the original plates are EJR, I can't remember the three numbers after the letters. If that's not enough I will snoop around photobucket to see if I have a pic of the plate anywhere.
