My classic car dilemma time

We bought a new 2014 Escape S (base vehicle) when we moved to Iowa. Best damn vehicle for its purpose! Rides good, good gas mileage, bluetooth sync to the phone is awesome. The S model has toe non turbo 2.5L 4cyl. FWD only too. It has plenty of room for 4 with space in the back for stuff too. Put the back seats down and you can carry a lot of baggage or tools, etc...

The only thing I've done to it after 27,000 miles is add heated seats! We've driven that car all over the central part of the U.S. with no complaints. I asked Deb just yesterday if she wanted to get rid of it and something else. I got the stink eye and a loud NO! She's NEVER done that before.

I'm fairly certain that nobody flogged a 4 cyl bare bones model. Either way it comes with a warranty that will last as long as she drives it!

I call BS. What husband doesn't hear "NO" routinely? Honey, I'm buying..."NO"! Sweetheart, I'm going to go play cards at..."NO"! Dear, I'm gonna turn on the game..."NO"! Please.

There's a lot of that going around.

I really feel bad for you and others. Terry, not so much! Actually Terry's barking like a little shit su. He has a woman who I still can't figure out what she sees in a really short, rotund, bald guy with no actual mechanical skills.

ouch

that is a cool feature they have to let you pick. For a while Hertz had the option to pick from certain cars if you are Gold status.
I love cars with the hand e-brake in the middle of the seats and a traction control off button!

You would have loved the Falcon XR6T or XR8 or the Commodore SS when you were in Brisbane then. All have what you want plus over 300kW. Yahoo.

I envy Australia's cars. You get all the fun ones we can't have till they're 25 years old. No skylines(wanted a r33 since high school), utes, falcons, Vauxhalls.

And even better, ours all have 4 doors and a roof.
The latest Falcon GT (which will be the last), comes with 335kW of Supercharged V8, great for a shopping trolley. But its outsold by the XR6T, which has a turbo inline 6, putting out 310kW and can be wound up to 600kW without touching the internals of the engine.

Now you're talking my style. I love inline 6s. Supras, skylines, 240/260/280 fairlady Zs, all that.
Wish Ford would have put that turbo l6 in the new mustang instead of a 4 pot.

No skills?!! o_O

We replaced my wife's 2003 V6 Escape with a 2015 and both of us like it. Nice ride, good mileage, amazingly peppy 4 cyl. we're very happy.

We had one as a company car when I drove bus. It had 250 k on it and drove like new.

The new ones are supposed to be even better.

Oh, BTW I'm just now going to replace the brakes on our 2012 Durango at 81000 miles. I'm just too scared.

I just got 19.8 from Arvin CA to St. George UT. With the 5.7 Hemi.

I have an '02 Ford Escape and it is awesome! Got the V6 AWD version when I had to suffer through a Colorado winter and didn't think Jane was up to the task :)

The nice part about the older body style is that they are now pretty cheap because the new body style is so good looking and people are upgrading. I got mine for $5200 at peak buying season in Colorado. It's immaculate (perfect paint, interior, all accessories still there, etc.) and only has 100,000 miles on it. Gets an average of 18-21mpg which is about the best you can get in a V6 SUV from the early 2000's. New SUVs get something like 20-25 mpg so I don't consider it too much of a loss. My requirement was that it just get the same or better mileage than my vintage car (the '66 Mustang), which gets 18-20mpg... so there you go.

I really don't like large SUVs (handling and visibility issues) and have a huge bias against Jeeps (I have never known one to be 100% in good repair, and the engines are terrible as are the interiors). I was looking at RAV4s and Pilots in addition to the Escape but the Escape ended up cheaper and hey, Ford stuff...
