Mystery broken part

janschutz

Corn Hauler
I found what looks like a broken rivet between my project and driver stangs. Since there is not any dirt on it, I guess it is from the project car. Any Ideas on where it was used so I can fix it? My guess is somewhere on the front suspension since it landed right behind the front tires.

I went out to the parking lot and looked at my hood hinges, sure looks like that is where it came from. Looks like I need a new driver's side fro the project car. The project car has repop hinges so I do not want to get them again. Anyone have a nice original I can buy or know someone who make good repops?

Isn't there a crimper tool for that which spreads the rivet apart further? Can also be used to tighten up original hinges? I thought I saw that somewhere or maybe I'm thinking of a service that's provided.

Put that puppy back in, place the hinge in a good press, and peen the head back out using a short harded steel chisel & the press ram. I've done several riveted assemblies that way, works quite well. Be careful though - if it takes too much force, you risk kicking something out of the press. :skul

I've never been in his garsge so I can't speak from firsthand experience, but I'm guessing he opened that big white garage door directly behind the parked Mustang and drove the car inside. Just a guess though really. lol

Dave is so observant......lol

Shag's hood hinges were major sloppy seconds and I had the wife hold the hinge over the vice while ball peened each rivet. A world of difference.

Dave was right... again! I opened the big white door... it's an Alpine that I built for my wife, just finished putting a V/6 2.8 4 bbl in the fall, I have an half assed build thread going here that needs updated when I get a round to it :)
