Narrowing the New Car Selection Down

"AzPete" said:
Either one you pick will dry rot before they wear out anyway.......that vehicle will be driven less than his '66.....and that is not much. :lol

Ain't that the truth! SWMBO averages 800 miles/year. *sigh*

I would spend less in that situation for sure. Maybe some good used ones a year or two old....

We have a Toyota Sequoia and like it alot. It gets about 18MPG with mostly city driving. Big but very nice. It would be a great time to buy a Toyota.

I have a 2004 Focus ZX3 that I'll let go. Gets great gas mileage and we have a "large" dog crate in there right now. It will fit dogs up to 100 lbs.

Full size spare and a set of studded snow tires go with the car!

OK, here we go again.....You probably don't want to hear what I have to say about foreign cars, but the Korean cars are all crap. Everyone I know that has purchased one has had problems with them within the first two years. Every one of the cars have been that way. My grandmother had a Hyundia and drove maybe 1200 miles a year. It was junk after two years.

So, I would try a minivan. I know you don't like Crapsler, but they build a heck of a minivan. Ours lasted from 89 to 93 when we bought a full size van from Ford. I have many friends that have the crapsler minivan and love them.

My Dad and my Brother both have Toyota Previa Minivan and love them. They are built on the Camry platform and seem to be roomy. They have not yet had any problems with the accelerator pedal. I would never buy one, but I only buy from American based companies. That is a whole new thread.

Ford makes a minivan, nit sure what it is called and the Edge is rated well.

Just some ideas from a biased person.

I know you mentioned no Gov't Motors, but the Buick Enclave is pretty darn nice and should have plenty of room!

Randy,

What about a pick-up with a bed camper cover? They make some nice pick'em up trucks out there.

Or get what I have.....a Suburban. Then you can take anything, anywhere. Heck I hauled three other StangFixer's in mine. All it needed afterwards was a quick wash out. :lol :lol :lol

OMG...I'm likely to be buying a minivan! To top it off, SWMBO wants the leather seats, which only comes on the top-of-the line Sedona, adding about $8k to the purchase price. Damn...

Dangit, my Focus does not have leather seats.

Heck buy her a new 2011 Mustang GT and a used U-haul trailer. :ecit

Seriously... there's an idea. Get a trailer. Since you don't need it very often, you can stow it away until you actually do.

I don't drive a pickup every day just because I occasionally need to haul something. I have a small trailer for that.

Randy:

Have you considered a vintage station wagon such as a late '60's Country Squire or something similar? You can actually work on it and the depreciation has already taken place!!! Besides, it is a lot cooler than a mini-van...........................................
