Need Distributor ID please

So we are getting close on the engine swap, and this morning I was looking at the Distributor and realized I don't know what I have! :shrug The PO had this engine in a fox body, and Iam not sure what he was trying to accomplish with his wiring harness madness I show in the picture below.

Can any one please ID this, so I can do some more research - I think Iam also needed a ignition module.

Maybe I just go with a aftermarket unit if some type? HELP! ;)

That's a standard Duraspark distributor. Used in most '80s fords. Google will give you lots of info. They can be used with the Duraspark boxes ($$ to replace, and the aftermarket units are not that reliable for these), MSD and most other ignitions, even can be used with a GM HEI module (Cheap, easy - I am doing this).

I've got a MSD blaster coil, and MSD 6al, for one of my other projects, so I'll just use those and I should be set!

Thanks! -Mark

+1, I'm using a Duraspark distributor with a Summit ignition box. Be sure to check online sources as to how it should be wired up to your MSD box.

David,

Here is what I know:
Engine Specs:
DSS Level 10 CNC block.
DSS pistons
Stock rods and polished crank
Comp Cams 270HR roller cam
Ford GT40 heads
Comp Cams pedestal mount roller rockers
Edelbrock Performer RPM Carbed Intake
Melling High Volume oil pump with hardened shaft
Summit Racing SFI balancer

Why what are you thinking?

Thanks Everyone! I got all the issues sorted out, and ended up just going with a MSD dizzy. The dizzy we did pull out did have a steel gear, and I was able to confirm my block is from a 1987, and it does have a roller cam in it.

Is there a vacuum line hooked up to the vacuum advance cannister on that MSD distributor?

The reason I ask.... I have that exact same distributor sitting back in it's original box. We installed it, hooked a vacuum line up to the cannister and it ran like CRAP. Disconnected (as you have pictured), it ran "okay". We ended up re-installing a FoMoCo distributor and the engine ran MUCH better. I never took the time to figure out what the problem was, but still have the $275 distributor sitting in the shop.

David,
Good advice, I'll keep that in mind. I hope to get all the wiring done this week so we can fire it up. ;)
