need rear end u bolt measurement

if anybody has one off of the car, i need a measurement of the opening from a stock u bolt . 8" rear in a 69. i have some for 9" & they are a little larger. i need to get some longer ones made for some heavy duty lowering blocks i'm making, but don't have shop space to get the car in & up to get a true measurement. thanks!

If it's a small bearing Mustang rear, all 8" and 9" used the same u-bolts, with the possible exception of the staggered shock cars. Only the big bearing rears used a different axle u-bolt (I'm assuming this is the u-bolt that you're referring to), as they don't have the taper.

When I swapped the 9" rear into both my '66 and my '69, I re-used my existing u-bolts. I did end up replacing them on the '69, when I put lowering blocks in, and needed longer bolts.
 
yeah, i should have clarified, the extra 9" u bolts i have is for the large bearing rear. they measure approx 3 1/4" & from what i can tell from reaching them around under the tire are about the width of the bolt wider than whats on the car. i'm guessing 2 3/4" for what i need based on that, but was wanting some verification if someone had some laying on the bench.
 
I just went out and tried to measure mine. Going back many many years from when I put in my 9", I had to buy new u-bolts cause the ones from the 8" were too small. It looks like I've got 2 3/4" u-bolts on my axle housing. I've got the small bearing version. It looks like this rear end has been cut down at some point, so I don't know what it was in originally.
 
Wtf? Did I read the tape wrong? No, 2 1/4" inside. Maybe 2 5/16, but thats as big as I can make it. Like I said, those bolts are the originals from my '65 8", and I'm pretty sure all 8" are the same. I can't remember any "large bearing" 8". And iirc, the small bearing 9" are the same as the 8".
At least that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
