New Knee, New Knee...

Several hours! That's serious stuff.
most of it is just to keep the scar tissue from making the knee stiff so we just have to do basic movements. But we HAVE to do them or the tissue will tighten up so much she won't be able to bend the knee and they will have go back in. She has pretty good pain meds so it hasn't been too bad but I do have new found respect for nurses! This is a full time job! She still can't do much on her own yet.

I did screw up pretty bad today. I had planned to smoke a brisket today for Christmas dinner. It was a great day for it too, 70+ degrees today. But I should have started the charcoal when we got home from church but I started her exercises, made lunch, we had the gift exchange with the boys and their girl friends, gave her the meds, put her in bed for a nap, etc. etc. By the time I realized I had screwed up, it was too late. It takes 5 to 6 hours. Everything else I could make was in the freezer. So we had hot dogs and mac n cheese for Christmas dinner!!!

Do the rehab, but don't over-do it!
My mother had knee replacement back in July. During rehab, her femur broke where the knee was attached... Ended up with a 2nd surgery, a plate w/ 8 screws and 60 days inpatient rehab. 5-1/2 months later and she still needs a cane to get around comfortably.

Thats a great scar! Although i hear many womenfolk don't see them with the same reverence men do. Ive had 3 knee reconstructions, all through keyhole. The next one will be a full replacement, so i will get my monster scar then. I hope its bigger than Tara's.

We have been doing the rehab they instructed us to do. I took her to Walmart today to get her out of the house and walk around some. She is doing very well. We see the doc on the 3rd and I think he will set-up a rehab programe a little more agressive. I called the doc yesterday to discuss what we have been doing and he was happy with the progress.
