new leafs/shocks

I wondered about which way the shocks should...instructions from summit racing said they might have to be mounted up or down according to the application. But, it didn't mention which application...lol. Don't you just love instructions like that? :soapboxrant I got to studying the shock and noticed an arrow that pointed up and had this way printed beside it. That did help a little. :confu

I didn't notice that the IAS shocks are mounted inverted with the piston down? Not sure what difference it makes either. Is that the way the instructions stated?

A little tidbit of info on the inverted shock. If you invert a shock (and the manufacturer allows it depending on design), you actually reduce the unsprung weight of the suspension. The same goes for coilovers. The majority of the shock weight is in the housing, so if it is in a fixed location and only the piston and ram move up and down there is less mass being pushed by the suspension.
 
Makes sense...... I installed a set of Edelbrock shocks on my Superduty a couple of years ago. Their instructions specifically asked for them to be installed in the inverted position. IIRC it had to do with the their internal design, and needed to be inverted for their valving to function correctly.
 
The Edelbrock's have an inertia valve and only works with the shocks oriented a certain way, which is inverted. I have a feeling they installed the inertia valve upside down to reduce the unsprung weight, or it could have been a packaging issue.
