Non Ford Daily Driver Question

I just picked up a 2011 GMC TERRAIN for the wife to make it easier for her to move a car seat around.

Anyway, my garage door isn't tall enough to let the truck in with the fixed base antenna. If i remove the antenna, it fits fine. This thing has onstar and XM radio so I dont want to have any issues with either. I was wondering if anyone would know of a hinged antenna, or some other little thing that can work for me. I asked the dealer, to make a long story short, they are no help. Keeping with the rules, a picture is attached.

I know, I know, but ive learned that a happy wife, makes a happy home. :craz Besides, it is pretty sweet. Much more comfy, then the flex, edge, and exploaders we test drove. Narrowed it down to the Terrain, Pilot, and Murano.

Not sure what you have for an antenna to start with but my BIL just lost the antenna shaft on his chevy Aveo? to someone who needed it more. All systems still work fine as he checked his on star while he was here. A couple trips in and out of the garage and all will be well.....after all.....it is just a chevy.

Don't park it in the garage. Problem solved.

Install a whip antenna and tie the end down to the rear of the car....errr, truck. While you're at it, go ahead and install some "Dixie" horns.

.....and be just like everyone else in Kansas.......

I'm pretty sure the old antenna is for local AM/FM only. YOur On-star and XM are through another antenna, usually a small black disc of very short black antenna.

I had dixie horns on my 5.0. Sold them with the car. Fun times for sure.

Defeats the purpose. Im trying to keep the kid out of the cold snowy months here.

Interesting, although im not sure how often we would listen to FM with satellite, i still want it to function correctly.

FM sat. does not use the stick type antenna. Remove the ant. post and try it....it will work.

The tall shaft should un-screw from the flat base. You cannot cut from the bottom. The top can be cut (I have done this to others) and not effect to much except long range am/fm reception, but not sat. or on star. My Focus has the same type setup. Remove the stalk and all still works but for far off stations.

Most likely have to re-thread the entire antenna wire to the radio. Most do not splice well or have a plug.

Don't over think this. Remove the stalk, buy a small plastic slip on cap to fit the threads and press on with life.

From the pics you posted, it looks like the satellite (Sirius/XM) antenna is the base of the AM/FM antenna. If so, would covering that with the shark fin hurt XM reception???

well, no antenna is not an option. I guess western PA has too many hills for no antenna. Although XM and onstar work fine without it. Regular radio is very spotty. I called the gm owners hotline today, and the rep said all she could say is didn't i test drive it before i bought it? :wtf Other then that, the search continues.

So.....you actually listen to the am/fm radio side of things? I gave up on them a long time ago with sat. radios.
