Not Mustang Weather

Well, the temps are getting warmer here in the heart of N. Carolina, but with it comes the spring storms. Here is the picture being used on the front page of a local news website from the tornadoes we had in the area last night.

This AM we set off for the annual Mustangs at the Border show. What a freakin' disaster..... We'd gone out drinking last night, so this AM none of us were really bright-eyed and bushy-tailed to start with, but then we had a weather delay of 1.5 hours standing around the shop waiting for the AM rain to stop. It finally did around 0930 and we set off on a "short-cut" that one of our Mustang buddies insisted was WAY quicker. Well.... it wasn't. Although as the crow flies it was a straighter line, it cut through every one horse town between here and there. Speaking of horses, an hour into the trip we came upon a very foul smelling section of road.... as it turns out we caught up to the "manure man" after driving through about 5 miles of his slop that was falling off of his truck. The noses and wheelwells (and I'm sure undercarriages) of both cars were covered in wet horse manure and we had to find a self car wash to at least rinse the clumps off. What a mess.

So this "2 hours, I swear" short-cut took closer to 5 hours.

The minute we arrived at the show it started raining. A light mist for about a minute, then followed by a steady sprinkle and within 5 minutes an absolute downpour. Fortunately there were a couple Boss9's, Boss302's, Machs, Verts, Coupes, FB's and a pristine '70 Shelby GT500 inside a large building for us to drool over for a few minutes. With the girls with us, it being 2:30PM and not haven eaten lunch, we didn't stay but for maybe 20 minutes before getting back on the road home.

We came North up I-95 and witnessed where a Tornado had crossed the highway the night before. There was a 100 yard stretch of pine trees snapped off and laying all over both sides of the highway with some rather large pieces still laying in the breakdown lanes. The remnants of a couple billboards were visible laying off in a nearby field.

It rained hard on us the whole way back. There was an hour long period where we were doing 35 in a 55 (13N from Fayetteville to Goldsboro) with the wipers going full blast.

What a completely sucky trip/day.

If the weather is similar for the 45th, I ain't gonna do it. I'd rather stay home and bang my head against the wall than drive 12 hours in the rain (45th is a 12 hour drive for me).

That really sucks! I've never had that bad of a trip but I know what your saying.
The only thing about the 45th is that it is a few days long so you could have at least one good day in there... hope you still come, looking forward to see those Stangs in person!
