Well, good news keeps rolling in. Just got a call from the surgeon and all went well on the surgery. No issues with anesthesia or surgery. She's in recovery and we'll get a call later on her status when she's awake. Here's a pic of Porsche and my beautiful wife prior to surgery this morning.

Today my wife and I wernt to visit Porsche at the hospital. She was resting when we arrived and during our visit, perked up quite a bit. She sat up several times. Remember, she's got one of those space collars on, a tube in her nose down to her stomache (to relieve gas pressure / bloating in her stomache) an IV, a drain in her surgery area and a catheter in her. Needless to say, I bet most of us would still want the morphine at this stage (just over 24 hours since surgery). She ate several kibbles (Trader Joe's Charlie Bears - great treats). My wife and son are off to see her right now so we'll see if she eats more this evening.

Looks like she'll get discharged on Sunday, as she hasn't been to active since this afternoon and the staff wants to see that she can get around ok.

More to come and we can't wait until she gets home.....

Today we visited Porsche again. Vet had called and said she's doing much better and very alert. They had walked her out and she's starting to become more active. They also removed the drain, the nose tube. She ate some. She's also still on an IV.

When we arrived, they brought her outside and we spent about 1/2 hour with her outdoors in the sunshine. She enjoyed that. Then we walked with her (they used a sling) back to the kennel. She ate a slice of bacon and a chocolate free cupcake we got at Sprinkles brand cupcake store.

Here's a pic of her. I suspect she'll come home tomorrow.Porsche-11-15-2014.JPG

I am glad your best friend is doing well. Aren't you in the San Diego area?

Maxi who passed a little bit ago had knee surgery in San Diego. The surgeon was awesome!

Mel, I am in Ventura County - north of LA. Thanks all for the support - our decision to amputate was one of my toughest in my life and it's turning out we've made the right choice!

image.jpg All,

Right around noon hour, we got our Porsche home. She walked with my assistance from the car to the backyard, peed (this is something to celebrate as she'd been on a catheter since Thu), and walked into the house. She rested and sat up several times this afternoon. She ate dinner and took her meds. One big task to check off is to poop.

Now starts the process of relearning to get up and walk on her own power...

Thanks for all your support and prayers!!!!

Wed, Nov 20 update: She (and we) have gotten through yesterday's grief day marking the 1 year death anniversary of her younger brother, Staark.

We reduced her meds, specifically the gabapentin. We reduced it from two pills a ay toon (in the evening) and Porsche was noticably more active during the day yesterday. Heres a pic of her sleeping on the kitchen tile floor after she had warded off a cat and a squirrel (by barking from the family room -they left so her job was done). She did stay awake andalert for severa hours. Shhad not been that 'active' prior to te med reduction....

She's definitely on her way to recovery (she's now running in her sleep - she had not done that since the surgery) and now we'll need to focus on her left rear leg exercise.

Update: over the past couple of weeks, Porsche has been improving. Yesterday, she walked from our family room out to the backyard to pee. My wife texted me saying she had tears of joy.

Today, we brought her to the vet to have her staples removed. We also had her first chemotherapy injection. She'll get a treatment every 3 weeks for 6 treatments. X-rays at 3rd n 6th treatments.

Here's a pic of Porsche and my beautiful wife at the vet's office this morning.

Here's a two month update. Porsche is due for her 3rd Chemo treatment this Friday (and Chest X-Ray). She's eating well and her fur is filling in nicely. My wife caught her 'surveying' the lay of the land this morning in the backyard....

For about a week after her second chemo treatment, she would not eat much if at all out of her food bowl. We believe that the metal container provides a funny taste for her. We now feed her off of a paper plate and she's eating normally.... Figure it must be a side affect of Chemo.. Here's a pic. the towel is our poor man's sling...
