I had to rest them for a while but going after it a little harder now that my shins feel better. Also found some braces that give the shins extra support and help a lot.
Generally, I run a few days in a row, then do something that's non-impact like Extreme Fit class, then take a day off then back to running.
I swear by Asic Gels as well...I used them as my training shoes when I was in cross country and wouldn't wear anything else for running. Both the boys have Asics as well.
Part of my problem was when I started running I had some worn out Nike shoes. Very bad idea in hindsight.
Right now I have a cheaper pair of Asics that I picked up for about $50....I've been planning on getting a better / more high end pair but waiting till the Christmas related MasterCard is paid first.
I had also reached a point in my running where I wasn't making any progress. So I took my own advice I had given the boys and started mixing it up more. Doing incline one day, short pace run the next, then distance, then run either 200's or 400's, etc, etc. Basically, how we used to train in cross country. The program worked for both boys but Jeff in particular so hoping it will work for me.
