Shel, rest the shins and I highly recommend Asic Gel shoes. Been wearing them for years and since running have tried some NB and Saucony. The Gels are like clouds, hard to even wear a regular tennis shoe casually after running in those things.

I had to rest them for a while but going after it a little harder now that my shins feel better. Also found some braces that give the shins extra support and help a lot.

Generally, I run a few days in a row, then do something that's non-impact like Extreme Fit class, then take a day off then back to running.

I swear by Asic Gels as well...I used them as my training shoes when I was in cross country and wouldn't wear anything else for running. Both the boys have Asics as well.

Part of my problem was when I started running I had some worn out Nike shoes. Very bad idea in hindsight.

Right now I have a cheaper pair of Asics that I picked up for about $50....I've been planning on getting a better / more high end pair but waiting till the Christmas related MasterCard is paid first.

I had also reached a point in my running where I wasn't making any progress. So I took my own advice I had given the boys and started mixing it up more. Doing incline one day, short pace run the next, then distance, then run either 200's or 400's, etc, etc. Basically, how we used to train in cross country. The program worked for both boys but Jeff in particular so hoping it will work for me.

Speaking of Asics....I went by Sports Authority today and found the ones in the picture for $79. I have been thinking about getting a better pair but have been putting it off. However, I happened to be scoping out the shoes and noticed they were having a sale...these are usually $109.

Pretty comfortable and looking forward to running in them. The instep support in them is pretty impressive.

Made a trek into Manhattan today, tried on a number of Asic Gels, but they weren't near as comfortable as the Nike Dual Fusions I've been wearing. Of course the DF's are no longer made, so I tried on their replacements...junk. Came home and found a couple pair on Amazon for $49 each.

Ran twice in my new Asics this weekend and love them.

Saturday I only ran a mile....we had been at the Hunter Pence camp all day and my calves were still seriously sore still from extreme fit on Thursday but I wanted to try out the shoes and break them in a little. Lighter than my old clunkers with more padding = win!

Yesterday, the boys and I ran our weekly workout in the parking garage. I did a couple of miles of incline and the shoes work great. My calves are less sore on the plus but my wrist still hurts from rolling it on a punch last Thursday....it happens when you get tired sometimes. Last night doing a bunch of pushups I had to do basically finger tip push ups to take pressure off my wrist, do they make Asics for my hands / wrist? LOL!
