Quality of Repo 65-66 Hoods?

I realize OEM is the best, however how would people rate the quality of Repo Hoods for a 65-66? Does one brand fit better than the other? I know Ford Tooling hoods exist now; but they are over $400.00.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

I'm using a repro hood and deck lid on a project I'm doing for someone else. It's a 69 though.

They are both decent pieces but have their problems. Fit is ok as far as gaps and basic dimensions but they don't seem as crisp at the bends and folds.
They are kinda rounded where they should be sharp. Easy enough to fix. You just have to decide if you want to fix new parts :headac

I would have to think the Ford tooling parts would be the best bet.

Dan, if I had to do it all over again I would buy ford tooling body parts. I went for price saving and all I did was pay the body shop the difference to make the gap lines straight and fix other fitment problems. The ford tooling metal seems to be quite thicker also. It might not be perfect but it will be closer.

I just purchased a Ford tooling one from Mustangs Unlimited for under $400. The fit is real good and the metal is as thick as the original. Only work needed is a little smoothing along the edges. I bought a regular repo for the trunk and what a pile of crap. Have to return that!

I havnt been at this fun adventure of restoring for a very long time but be patient. You can find some OEM hoods around for 65-66. I just picked one up tonight in great condition. Of course it needs a little work, very minimal so it seems now that I have it in my hands, but look around.

I have been reading to stay away from the fiberglass hoods at all cost, something in regards to them warping.

We've been at the body fitting stage on my 65. I'm really happy with the ford tooling hood. Welded up the letter holes and put in epoxy primer yesterday. It lines up great. The trunk lid on the other hand........ :scar

The biggest problem with fiberglass hoods, is that people put them on while they're still green and use the normal hood springs. this combination will cause some flex in the hoods. Then there are some glass hoods that are just all around crappy, ask johnpro about his old 'glass hood. I have it sitting in my garage with a big hole in the middle. That hood I didn't have a problem with cutting up. I haven't run a metal hood for about 9-10 years.
