Rapid Renix Jeep

A little quick cutting to see how much I need to patch.

I filled the entire back of the cherokee with scrap metal left over from another project to the junk yard today.

Of course I couldn't stop myself from picking up a few things. Found a few goodies from a 1990. Spent a grand total of $50.

Stock airbox and vacuum lines, it even came with a filter that looks brand new.

Missing windshield trim. Door, tailgate, glovebox and taligate locks that have a matching key! And some extra misc bits.

1990 engine computer which is an update for the 87. Provides better performance, mileage, general drivability for the Renix engines.

Rear tailgate cargo panel.

Not much to update. I've just been picking at little projects.

Finished repainting all the interior trim, started adding sound deadner while everything was pulled out. but haven't patched the floor yet.

I replaced and updated all the fuel injectors to a modern 4 hole for better flow. Also put in a new fuel pump and cleaned out the tank.

I've been chasing a random misfire for the last few months. Is very intermittent. And since this isn't obd plug in for codes I had to go old school. Picked up a old diagnostic set from an auction.

Other than that it sat most of the summer. I lost half of my staff after the first covid shutdown so I worked 6 days a week all summer. Just haven't had much time.

I also pickep up this custom made monitor built for the renix engine system.

It pulls a lot of data. It's pretty slick. I ran the cable from engine compartment where it plugs in and put it on the dash cluster so I have access to monitoring data while I'm driving.

Finally had a fre day alone in the garage. I've been working 7 days a week for some time. Damn covid is constantly making me quarantine half my staff at a time.

I started making patch panels for the rear cargo floor.

Keep in mind I've never done metal work on a vehicle before and this is a winter beater and will all be covered by carpet.

So don't beat me up to bad.

Ok. So I learned a couple things.

1. I suck at welding.

2. Flux core welders, not great for sheet metal. I knew this, but it's all I had access too right now.

3. Bondo is a crappy welders friend.

So considering this is really a winter beater and will be covered with sounds deadener and carpet. I can live with it.

I'll throw some paint over it and move on.

I know. I didn't even want to post that picture for fear of mockery!

Today I pulled the front passenger seat to get to the other rust hole.

This one I bought a floor pan for. I'm thinking I'll just cut out from the door over to the unibody frame rail.

Most of the floor pan is solid with just surface rust. Took a wire wheel to it and cleaned up a little.

After today I'm back on working 7 days week so I won't get far.
