Re building back deck

I've been using beam seal tape and of course I didn't buy enough. And I need 4" which no one locally carries. So I have to wait on online orders to come through. I'm wasting a week on this. dang.

When I built my deck I used pressure treated framing underneath and 100% cedar decking boards. I used a type of galvanized angle iron attached to the side of the joists and then screwed through the other side of the angle up into the bottom side of the deck boards. All to have a fastener proof topside. This was almost 25 years ago prior to the commercial emergence of all the fancy angles side fasteners that screwed from above into the sides of the decking to secure the boards. After all this time it is still in really good shape underneath. Not putting holes into the top surface of the joists has allowed them to survive. The deck boards, however, have seen better days. I was not the best at keeping up with cleaning and sealing and they show it. I'll be following Mike's lead this summer likely redoing mine.

I wrote all that leading up to this question. I though the tape was just to provide a sealing action for fasteners that drove down from the top through the tape into the joist. Really the purpose being to keep water from running down the fastener into the hole in the beam by creating a watertight seal around the screw/nail. If that is the case, why the need for tape wide enough to cover the entire top of the joist/beam? I've got 25 year old pressure treated boards that would show that if you don't break the surface with a fastener they hold up really, really well. Educate me before I screw something up soon!

Well my pressure treated beams are from 31 years ago. Their still good but do have those prior holes and remnants of screws. Better to keep water from even getting in there again. I'm using the Camo method and screws. The template they offer is fool proof. It not only sets the angle of the screw but will set the exact depth. You can't drill them in any further. Once I get going a 20 footer should only take about 5 minutes to screw down. The first one I did was so easy. Like painting its all in the prep. The support beams must be correct . Oh and get your wallet out. Its not cheap.

You did that on purpose hoping next week it will rain ??
Camo method and screws : looked it up on youtube, seems to be a nice system.

I bought a Camo tool and a ton of fasteners with the intent to re-do the decking last year. Played around on a test set-up and honestly, didn't like it. At least with 5/4" cedar boards I didn't feel like it was going to be secure enough or long lasting. I'll have to give it another look this year. Already spent a lot on the stuff might as well at least think about it again.

Yes Bruno it supposed to rain just as the tape arrives. Then it will be all mud again and wet boards.

Can you make sure the deck is done and it is not raining on April 15th? I have a gala to attend and I expect nothing but the best.

Some progress and then the rains came again. I'll do what I can without stepping in the mud (which adds about 3lbs of mud on each shoe)

Depends on the camera. Phone pics will not show vertical. Real camera works fine with a resize.

Since {.} finally sold the race car, maybe he can drop the apron for a tool belt and come out and help you!

1966 2+2 (Sold)

I would believe it is safe to assume so......but maybe they found out you touched the engine and they backed out of the purchase.

Don't you have to impregnate that kind of wood ? Cause a stampede of stangfixers are heading to your place.
