recommendations for small or midsize SUV?

To update, last weekend we test-drove another Nissan Rogue (2010), Toyota Rav4 (2009), Toyota Highlander (2003) and a Honda Pilot (2008). The Rogue is the best one so far. Having owned 3 prior Toyota's, I had high hopes for the Rav4 but it was "only ok" and had more engine noise that we would have liked. The Highlander was a very pleasant surprise and nice, this was a '03 with 70k miles, 4WD, many options, $16k seems a bit high (will do research), but it's a contender. The Honda was noisy and uncomfortable.

We still need to check the Ford Escape and will test Highlander's and Rogue's. GM and Chrysler products are not being considered.

Thanks for the input to date.

Wow that Highlander does seem high.
The 08 Equinox we bought was the high end version with just 30k miles and we bought it for under $18k.

One more to consider would be the VW Tiguan. From what I have read, it is getting high marks and I like the look.

Right now VW is offering 0% for 36 month financing on them.
