Roof Rail channel

Stangfix members, on a 1967 Mustang fastback what installs first, the roof rail, or the thinner moulding? I don't remember which I took off first. Thanks

When you say roof rail, are you referring to the drip rail?

TapaYakin' from my iPhone

It is about 1 inch wide, thin stainless with notches for the screws that hold the roof rail in place. Not the drip rail trim, I am leaving that off, I am trying to figure out how to install the other two stainless parts.

The decorative filler trim goes on first, then the foam strip, then the weatherstrip channel... At least, that's how I did mine.

Re: Roof Rail channel-Attention 67 Fastback owners

Did anyone take pictures of how to install this during their build? I am having a lot of trouble figuring this one out, I see the remains of the foam seal like it was installed first I do not see a foam seal between the two stainless parts. Thanks

Sure looks like the foam goes on before the 2 stainless pieces in the diagram Craig posted. That makes more sense, to me anyway.

Actually, the foam tape goes between the two stainless parts. The piece that is attached using rivets is installed first - I think it is the one that is located closest to the drip rail. Then the tape is placed along the flat part of the installed molding. Then the second trim piece is installed. Finally, the weatherstrip is installed. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of this.

This what I wound up with, I did not put the foam overlapping between the thin filler trim and the window opening frame. I will have to take weatherstrip channel out and redo it since the thin filler trim is not flat against the window opening frame in some spots.

In this picture an edge is sticking out.

OK, im a bit confused, I started to clean mine today so I could polish them up and re-install and I know the wide strip caulk was between the actual car metal and the first piece of stainless. I really wish I could find more wide strip caulk, foam is not my first choice.

I do not remember anything being between the two pieces of stainless that hold the rubber seal? Mine is a 65 FB, maybe they are different in 67?

Wish I had my car nearby but being on vacation........I also believe that the foam would go between the two metal pieces for I don't think the factory would have it under a rivetted piece, otherwise how would one ever replace it? Then again, these Mustangs were never meant to last very long.

That's how I remember doing mine... rivit the filler panel, then "closed cell" foam, then the weatherstrip channel.
My car is not home either... I did want to verify it to make sure I wasn't giving bad advice earlier but didn't get a chance to get over to where its stored.

As far as flat strip caulking, I thought somebody made it but don't know for sure. I wonder if glass setting tape would work as it is fairly pliable. They make all sorts of thicknesses (1/16, 5/64 etc...). In fact in a pinch I sliced some narrow strips and used them to seal between the fender and fender extensions... 5 years later and no issues.

Any chance there's strip caulk against the body and foam tape between the stainless pieces?

I bet one of the concours guys would know how it goes.
