Seat transplant

My wife doesn't like the stock seats in the '68. Besides being kinda broken (passenger side) they aren't that comfortable for me either. I like the seats in my 2005. If I transplant 05+ Mustang seats in my '68 will they go in without too much modification. Of course we will have to do something about the seat tracks. Without measuring the seats look similar in width. I'd be looking for the black leather to match the interior the closest. Anybody do this or recommend anything better? I have a prosthetic leg so they have to be easy to get in and out of and preferably don't sit any higher than stock or my head will hit the roof. Thanks, Justin

My understanding is that the minor mod to the seat track is good up to the 2004 model year. The 2005 on up Mustang seats are incompatible with the previous designs.

You like the 2005 seats? Try the 2003, or the 1989 or 1999 seats...much more comfortable!

I know this probably doesn't help much, but years ago, I put some fox body seats in a 94 S-10 I had. The S-10 seat tracks bolted in almost perfect. The seat had a series of untapped holes that I presume were for there for other Ford vehicles that had a different pattern. Amazingly, I simply used the bolts to thread the untapped holes. I'm not sure why that was successful, but it worked.

There are a couple of short posts on my cars I put '04 seats into. There are some comparison pictures also. The GT seats in leather run $300-$500.

The '05 seats are to wide to fit between the door and hump from what I am told.

After removing the factory tracks of the new seats, the original tracks bolt to the front holes and you drill a hole for the rear bolt and not. The drivers side takes some spacers because the base for the seat is not flat. I have used washers or pipe for spacers. Then install them in the car.

I prefer the GT seats as I had ine set of '04 V6 leather. No bolstering to speak of. Also, in the last set of '04 GT seats, I left the lumbar support in the drivers seat and ran a power wire to it. It is separate from the power rack.

This last car, I took out a new set of Corbin Sport seats because the side bolsters were to much for getting in and out of.
