Sending units

Is there a way to test sending units for Temp and Oil pressure? I have new sending units. Voltage is 5-6. Gauges have been checked and still they don't work. Temp gauge goes all the way to hot driving down the road and drops when at idle. Bad ground? Engine is not over heating. All gauges are factory on a '73 Mustang. Thanks!
 
Just wondering if you have them hooked up to the correct gauges????? If you can locate the ohm resistance readings for your specific sending units, you can test them with an ohm meter.
