So dang quiet anymore around here

I guess this thread is as good as any to post misc goings on. Friends and family always give me shiite about not making more progress on my truck or hot rod projects. They don't really recognize all the crap that comes along that takes up our (car guys) time, I guess.

For example, I spent most of the day today helping my neighbor. He found a way to drive his wife's brand new SUV into the front brick facia of his garage resulting in some pretty nice gouges, etc on the plastic front bumper cover. Also cracked a fog light letting water in which caused it to fry. He was given an estimate over the phone north of $2k to fix it. I scoffed at the obvious extortion attempt so next thing I know I find myself taking it apart and bringing it to my garage for bodywork and paint.

Another of the precious few decent Saturdays I get a year for "car hobby" gone. At least it turned out good and they are happy.

And because of Fix rules...

Ah such a good neighbor. Now get to work on YOUR projects! I was there maybe 3 years ago and I bet you haven't done a thing.

Same here. Have to finance my hobby by repairing other cars. Glad I enjoy working on the fastback and not pressured to finish it.

I have been gone a lot. I had my right knee totally replace on 7/11. Been doing the rehab the last 4 weeks. Another month of rehab and I hope to be able to get out into the car barn more.

Finally moved to our new home. Selling of my old of our old place was way more difficult that expected because people expecting a master bathroom and we have 2 steps that lead down into the family room.

Now that’s over we find a great home in a highly desirable area. It was lightly lived by the original owner an older single lady. My neighbors are classic cars people which is nice. A neighbor across the street is a total ford guy with a mustang, airplane and falcon. My next door neighbor is into Chevy k5s and the neighbor on the other side is into 80’s VWs.

I’ve been going grey since I got married 14 years ago. At least I’m not losing my hair. The beard really shows off the grey. Jenn always looks fantastic.

Hmmm, I sense a trend here, two car gals and both of you are archaeologists. You and Kelly_H on VMF.

I'm not an archaeologist! I'm a geologist lol. Archaeology is far too new and far too involved with dead people for me  I prefer the subjects of my studies to have been dead for at least 30 million years or more, thank you very much.

Same occupational hazards though... my old advisor just got his 3rd or 4th knee replacement? At the age of 70. I work hard to not destroy my knees as it looks like a real pain in the ass down the line!

I was thinking the exact same thing... last time I saw David there was no gray in the beard at all! Gotta be 6 or 7 years now if not more. Jenn still looks exactly the same though!

As for me, I've been dragged into the depths of my career which has been very annoying for me from a hobby standpoint. And from a working standpoint, actually. All I want to do is do my research projects but I'm getting dragged into various committees and leadership roles and it is really bugging the hell out of me. Feels like all I do is answer emails sometimes. Wish people would let me go back to hiding under my rock!

Definitely in a pretty brutal cycle of go to work, come home and make a great meal, go to the gym to work off the effects of said meal, do yardwork, collapse in a pile, rinse and repeat. I am sitting here at my computer STILL trying to work up the motivation to finish the last blog post... from last year's road trip... which was in August  Yikes. Other projects also still lying about completely abandoned with little to no progress.

Jane still good though, I've swept all of her problems under the rug (far easier than actually fixing them) and we still putt putt around town a few times a week. I'm planning on heading out to Arizona with her for a 3-week loopy loop in October but have yet to really lay down any plans or book campsites. Probably need to get on that or I'm not going to have anywhere to stay. Hate that it's like that now.

Just life, I guess.
