Always on vacation!
Well, here it is now almost 3 AM. I have been in the hospital for (counts on fingers) 7 days this is my 8th day.
Here are the gory details.
Thursday, arrive, very anxious. Get to have blood tests, Xrays and the usual weigh in. Then they go about orienting me and my Son-in-Law and daughter. so boring! 10 people saying the same stuff all scaring the living daylights out of me. Even more anxiety. Nothing modern drugs can't help though and these guys have no problem issuing what ever they think may help. So after the kids take all my stuff, ( Now I can't change my mind and run away in the middle of the night.) and leave, I get them to give me some sleeping aids and something for the anxiety! These are truly happy pills!
Friday they start all the scary stuff at 445AM. Darn it I was just sleeping better than I had in Months! Gotta get weighed in, they put some gizmo in your artery near your thumb to measure BP and allow access. As if an IV is not enough access. then they ask tons of questions to make sure they have the right guy and ask what kind of music you want to listen to. Like that freaking matters, before you can answer them you are out!
When you wake up there is some stranger who quickly becomes your best friend smearing stuff on your lips and assisting with the removal of this huge tube from your mouth. Right now all is well with the world, well at least being that high makes it feel like it. After a few minutes they ask you what your pain level is. that's dumb, it is freaking off the scale and you have good drugs, stop being stingy!
Since you have drainage tubes right next to your lungs you can only take 1/4 breaths. They hand you a stupid little machine and tell you to suck as hard as you can. Hehehehe, are they joking? You do and the little white disk which the day before went to 4500 without trying goes to 500-750 and they say how good that is. Then it causes you to cough! This stuff only hurts when you laugh, cough, or breath.
Expecting to be in ICU for a day, I am just trying to rest and I've got my kids there, nurses that want blood or some other stuff all keeping me from sleeping. the good news it the heart is in normal rhythm.
After about a day the heart goes back out of rhythm and I get to stay in ICU another day. They can't get behind the pain so I am in distress for what seems an eternity, but is really about 1 hour. They give me a pain pump, and I now can just push the button anytime I want to get high. the catch is it only works every ten minutes. Still I manage to keep myself very happy!
Then they moved me to a real room. I felt every bump in the road and have an attack of pain by the time I got to the room. I could not breath literally and gasped as someone tried to make me comfy, but until I could breath and this talk, I couldn't tell her what she was doing was hurting me.
I got settled in and for the next day or so have major pain due to the chest tubes. Finally they take one out. then that pain is replaced with the cathader pain! That was and easy fix, we just make it go away. Now ir is fill a bottle.
Well I have now felt the two things that have cause me the most pain I have ever had before. I passes kidney stones and been hit by a wood paddle in a riot and none of that hurt nearly as bad as the two pain attacks I just went through.
Anxiety is off the scale too. All this is controlled by modern drugs!
I cruise along and am at the point that I have no more good veins to get an IV into and have had blood drawn so much I look like I need to go get some full sleeve tatoos!
I only have a day or two left here. they need to get my heart rate under control and then I am good to go. The shocked it the other day and it refused to cooperate, they will try again in the morning and see what happens.
Anxiety drugs are your friend, so are Oxycontin!
I have been unable to think or focus very long, so I have not been on much, but now I am back to being able to focus, so as time permits, I will be back.
Current assessment is that I feel like my hands were tied together over my head and I was pulled up off the ground while some big bad a$$ took a baseball bat and hit me just under each arm pit and then hung me for an hour or two and then let me down. I have two huge black baseball size bruises which are swollen under my arms.
Oh, did I mention the food goes in and doesn't come out? The third most painful thing that has ever happened to me has been the experience of the first time the food tried to exit my body. Let's just say the baseball was stuck neither in nor out for 20 minutes!
So there you have it a blow by blow.
