taking it in tomorrow

So far so good on the rest of it.

We had already checked the whole underside and frame rails, etc when we replaced the floor pans a little over a year ago.

The rockers are good and the driver's door was repairable with just a small patch in the front corner.

For whatever reason guess some water got on the inside of that door and rusted it pretty badly. There was some bubbling that you could see in the front corner but it looked fixable. But when they started cutting on it, sanding on it, etc....well I guess paint can hide rust pretty well at times.

I had long since had my doubts about saving that door because I knew the bottom of it had "some" rust on it.

In the picture though, I think they had cut some of the metal back to see if they could get the rusty stuff cut out and then just gave up. That's my best guess anyway....

None of that appears to have been cut out. Probably poked with a screwdriver and more and more kept coming apart. That door sat a while with water or something in it.

The car sat in the yard of the old guy that originally bought it for a good number of years. Guess he stopped driving it and parked it. Eventually his grandson fell in love with it so they had it painted, put a motor in it, etc and he drove it while he was in college.

Probably got some water in the door and just sat there for who knows how long through those years that it was sitting in some old guys' yard.

The other door needed a little work but nothing massive.

Just hoping I can trade parts with my local friend and get an original door in better shape and avoid the reproduction route. He said he felt sure he had several just needed to dig around in the barn some.

you could always see if the museum would let you trade your door for theirs. Maybe a better view through yours. :lol

Ha, ha, ha....

The funny thing I was just thinking about is that a couple of weeks ago a couple of folks at the car club were telling me I didn't need to get it painted and "just wax it".

Glad to be getting this door replace (for obvious reasons) and the other one fixed. My quarters were getting faded enough that they were starting to look orange in the right light. Hopefully it will look really nice when it's all done.
