Texas fires

Just watching the nightly news here in OZ and they said that 500 houses have been lost so far in your bushfires.
I hope everyone is safe.

Yesterday, while I was our our hill. I could see the smoke from 4 different fires. The closest is about 6 mile away but spreading away from us. This is the driest I have ever seen it. 2 of our 6 ponds are completely dry and one more is getting close to dry. It will not take much to start a fire. One was started by someone mowing. All outdoor grilling is banned.

Magnolia is not that far from us...about ~ 20 minutes drive.

The wind on late Sunday plus all day yesterday was brutal and causing the fires to spread quickly. I can't remember the last time it rained here more than 1/4 an inch...it was dry all Spring and all summer so far minus a very occasional fast shower. Wind finally laid down late yesterday evening.

My Sister in law / Brother in law live in Steiner (sp?) Ranch in north Austin and they had to evacuate over the weekend. Looks like their home will be fine since the fire was really on the other side of their area.

I went to the "extreme fitness" at 5:25 a.m. this morning at Krav Maga and it smelled like a camp fire when I got out of the car. Driving home you could see a haze of smoke. Actually makes for poor air quality and found myself running out of air much sooner in class this morning even though we were inside with central air.

Do you guys think this may affect flights into Dallas next week ? I am not sure where all the fires are.

No fires in the Dallas area. These fires are around Austin and East Texas. My farm is located 127 eat of Dallas. My Dad told me thismoring is could see the red glow to the north west last night.

There seems to be fires all around surrounding cities of Bryan/College Station. I didn't smell or see any smoke yesterday, but this morning I can see a hazy sky (not really bad, but you can tell its slightly brownish) and smell smoke.

Kat you know that's a bunch of bull pucky! You simply forgot about the burrito you ate last night :roll

This picture was taken less than 10 miles from my farm. If the wind becomes westerly, I will be toast.

My mustang did a great burnout when I left this morning.
So far, my relatives and family are fine. This fire did jump the highway today. More bad news.

ps to give a hint how big it is, you can barley make out a firetruck and pickup in the picture.

Scary stuff! Better be ready to get the heck out of there! Too bad all this rain were getting up here in PA didn't make it's way into Texas where it started. kip

Couple of pictures from a friend in Austin are attached.

The family I work for has a large ranch out near Magnolia. I met with the ranch manager yesterday and she said there is no fire on the ranch now but she's nervous as hell and really praying for rain.

Wow. It looks like an apocalyptic end of the world type movie scene.
Scary stuff.

Just got off the phone with my parents. The fires are still staying away from the farm but the smoke is so thick that my parents are having trouble breathing. But with all the animals there, they will not leave until it is the last moment.
