Texas meet in the middle ideas.

I am starting this thread to take suggestions for a location for a Texas meet in the middle. The middle is a tough concept in a state covering over 268,000 miles that is 800 miles wide and 800 miles long. It seems that most of the texas fixers are either dfw area or houston area, with a few central texas folks. I propose Waco. Little further for houston folks, but lots of hotels and places to eat and drink. Nominate some other places and once i have several we can set up a poll. We can the work on the date later.

What about College Station in June? A local car club (not the one I'm in though) has a huge 2 day car show here, and the Friday night before the show starts, everyone gets together and hangs out. StangFixers could do our own thing instead.

Just tossing that out there. Just thought it would be cool if folks could bring their mustangs to the show so the chevy guys can drool. LOL

Waco could work as well. That's not that far.. about 2 hr drive from where I live in Bryan/College Station.

Texas Mustang used to have a car show in the Spring/Summer. I went to it several years ago. Saw a late model Mustang twist and snap his driveshaft while on the dyno. Made a mess of his car, including busting a hole in the gas tank. Then, I won a door prize. A free dyno pull. I told'em thanks, but no thanks.

I can't speak for others but June is getting super busy really fast on my calendar. Boys' b-day party, father's day, vacation, etc, etc.

Waco isn't a bad drive from my place. When I was growing up both sets of grandparents lived there so I've made the drive a million times...between 2 1/2 and 3 hours from where I live. I don't go up that way very often any more but my aunt and uncle still live in Robinson (just outside of Waco). I also have a couple of long-time friends that live in Waco that I used to hang out with when I would go visit my grandfolks in the summers.

I'm sure the Trans Am :wth I mean Mustang could make it to Waco and back. I have to admit though if :Mark were coming I would have to seriously consider bringing the PT Cruiser

I think back in the day the kids in Waco used to cruise Valley Mills Dr. in their misc hot rods a lot but no idea if they still do so or not.

Waco in the fall sounds great. I will get a list of weekends that are not Baylor football home weekends and post a list. Since it is my original home town I know lots of cool places to hang, like papa rollos, or buzzard billies'. Pretty sure too minnies' was closed down by the police. We may be able to put together a nice mitm.

Just make it family friendly, Julie will should come since I most likely will have her 68 Mustang driving by then.

Waco will work for me. I have to go to Minneapolis the weekend of 9/11. Try to work around that.

Hey is the only thing to do to in Waco is visit the remains of the Branch Davidian religious compound?? :bowdown :bowdown

Original Dr. Pepper bottling plant. Brazos river. Texas Rangers hall of fame.

I think you may be right, LOL!

We were at the park for a game late last night so I am not really "with it" this a.m. :Katcof

Right click / delete to avoid misleading another. :roll

Yes, I mean the Texas Rangers, the oldest law enforcement agency in TEXAS and part of the DPS.
The old Dr. Pepper bottling plant is now a museum. There is also a nice municiple golf course for any hackers out there. Avoid the Elite cafe, if it's still there.

Seems like it was a big deal when the Elite reopened when I was younger but I have never been impressed with it the one or two times I've been there.

I have been to Waco many times when I was a kid since both sets of grand folks used to live there but never really did any of the tourist type stuff. When I was in town I mostly stayed around my grandparent's house minus the fact my grandparents were at the church anytime the doors were open and sometimes gram would take me to play mini-golf at Lion's park.

My grandfather had a wood shop in the backyard so I never really wanted to do anything other than work in the shop with him when I was there. They used to have some great climbing trees in their yard though that were good for a brake from woodwork and there was the garden to help with. When I would go stay a week or two in the summer as a kid I had all the entertainment I could handle right there at Gram's house :)

After hanging out with the troops over the weekend, a few PMs and some discussion, it has been decided that Austin would be a far better venue for this event.

So Austin it is. shbrandt and mmw68 are from the area and can guide us on when to do it and what to do while there.

Let the shoosting begin.
