The 1986 Saleen

Just a quick "before & after" preview of the cleanup... There WILL be more/better pictures when I'm further along, but don't want to give it ALL away yet. :roll

Spent 10-12 hours last weekend cleaning & shining. The car got a good bath, followed by clay bar. Then 2 coats of Meguiars #7 by hand to revive the paint. After the #7 soaked in overnight, a buff with #2 on an orange pad, followed by NXT 2.0 wax with a red pad. A little Ultimate Black for the trim too. It shined up pretty well. :pbj

Mechanically, I installed the new alternator that came with the car, lubed some noisy swaybar bushings, and aligned the gas door. Still have a few items on the punchlist, but I have all winter... Oh, and I scored a "vintage" radar detector for it too... (Escort Radar detector was standard equipment in all 1986 Saleens)

The car also made it's first trip to work with me today. Can't believe how nice this thing drives. :steer

Updates... (note that some were previously posted in another thread - I'm adding them to this "build thread" now)

The 2nd owner (1989-2012) sent me the manual for the Saleen-original Kenwood KRC-6000 stereo.

I got the special "short cord" for the Escort radar detector yesterday - plugs into a jack that Saleen installed in the maplight housing:

The selling dealer's license plate frame is installed:

I also have the buildsheet now:

Today, I'm throwing a whole box of Motorcraft parts at the car - battery, cap & rotor, plugs, wires, oil/air/fuel filters, PCV valve, wipers. Also have dew wipes and floormats to install...

Installed everything except the dew wipes and fuel filter today. The cleaning "while I'm at its" got the best of me. Had to force myself to STOP... :roul

Here's what a tuned up & semi-cleaned 5.0 looks like:

Sorry for the crappy "garage shot with a flash" pics, but it's dark... :char

Picked up a new camera (Canon SX260HS) and needed to experiment with a few photos. (A friend was also asking for some in portrait vs landscape...)

Nice pictures Bob. What brand of tires are you running on car, they look like they have a pretty decent tread pattern.
