Thinking I need to change my business name.

When I started this little business (CarsByChris) in '06, I looked to see if there were any other businesses with the same name. As far as I could see, there were not. So I started it up. Later, I found that there was another guy who does CGI illustrations of cars and his business is Cars By Kris. I thought for a bit about changing my business name but thought that there surely would be room for both of us.

Over the past few years I have received e-mails intended for him which I have nicely referred the person to the correct business. I did actually get 2 jobs out of it as they didn't want his price or his turnaround time.
Now, I once did an illustration for JME Enterprises for a race car of theirs. Fun job, good gig. I recently found that Cars By Kris now has an illustration on their front page of the same race car for JME. My thinking is that Julio (J of JME) accidentally went to the wrong site to get a new illustration done and went with the other guy. Fine. All is fair in this world but I started to think about how I am planning on growing my business and trying to brand my new logo and I wonder if I want to do that when there could be the confusion that already exists.

I absolutely love my new logo. I want to keep it. I think it works great for what i do but I think I need to come up with a new name to brand myself with and move forward.
Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas? Am I just over thinking things?

I thought about:
CBC Design Studio
Customs By Chris
CBC Studios

Thoughts? I'm listening to everything. You can see the logo at the bottom of the page.

I think you definitely need a way to differentiate yourself. It shouldn't be hard to rework the logo with a new name. I like CBC Studios or Chris' Custom Studios. Something like that. I think a change will really help you stand out especially if you're looking to grow the business.

I started with looking at simple Google search parameters. Creations By Chris was first but too many similar as well and most went to female clothing. To keep your logo and keep it clean I would go with CBC Designs. Maybe CBC Custom Designs.

You want something that when potential customers start typing a search, your name comes up in the autofill and nobody else. Too long of a name can put short attention customers (how much of the population does that apply to?) get easily diverted.

If your looking for Canadien customers you might want to stay away from "CBC" because it's The TV station that carries Hockey Night in Canada.

I like the comment...
"You should just change your name to Mike. Why should I change my name, he's the one that sucks."
LOL
Honestly, Kris does amazing work. Just different from my style. There is plenty of work out there for us all but I do need to differentiate myself a bit to avoid future confusion.

I personally like CBC Designs, Or CBC studio. Most people are going to start referring to you as just "CBC". Does the word Designs reflect what you do more then Studio? Look at Orange County Choppers, they are just OCC now.

Too bad your name isn't Owen... then you could be OCD....

And you wouldn't be having this problem to begin with.

Leave out the "studio"

I like CBC Designs or even something that keeps the car thing in the title like CBC Automotive Designs

CBC Illustrations

CBC Customs

I'm a believer in describing in the name what the business does.

Chris's Car Art

do you, or will you do motorcycles etc

Chris's Art of Transportation
