This does it for me with the MCA......

So you will have to pay to join the organization and then pay them to judge your car? Is that to reduce the number of entries or increase membership? I suspect it will have a decrease in the number of cars at the show and a reduction in membership. :shrug

That's what we call round here not seeing the forest for the trees.

It does seem crazy and this suggestion was made after I resigned. From what I understand, their rationale is that it helps with planning better (think: trophies, show field layout, special events...). MCA picks up the travel/hotel bill for sending the judging secretary, head/assistant head judges to go to each show, so they don't think non-members should have the benefit of the judging process. I can understand some of the logic, but not sure that I agree with it. Suppose that time will tell, but with a club that has had year after year of membership retention issues, this appears to be taking a step backward.

Forgot to add... Laurie, correct me if I'm wrong... non-MCA members can attend national MCA shows, but they can't register for a class that is judged? So, MCA thinks it's a membership benefit to have your car judged. The thing about this is that MCA members were getting a show discount for being an MCA member. So, there will be no discount now? Non-members were already paying a little extra than MCA members at the national shows. :confu

I agree with you whole heartily. I know that in the TVMC that this and the steep dues increases has caused several of our club members to drop MCA.

Yes, you're right Charles, non-members can attend and can register for non-judged class.

Who else does the MCA pay the travel cost and motel for? That is one beef I had with them before. There was a select group that managed to stay in control and it seemed that either the hubby or wife was always on the board. Hell, maybe the same bunch is still in control, I haven't really checked. I know it was a very sore spot with several previous members and why they dropped their membership. It appears that "NOTHING" has changed.

They pay for the MCA show secretary travel expenses for each show (hotel, airfare, rental car). The 2 head judges can expense each show too, but they don't always go to every single show. The assistant head judges get a certain amount of $$ that they can use to expense each year, think it's something like $1200-1500. It used to be that the assistant head judges could expense 2 shows a year. The classification person is probably who you are referring to in the post. That position is considered an assistant head judge position. I don't remember if they got all their shows paid for. Her and her husband have been around for a while, being on the BOD and such. Maybe who you are thinking of, but I've never had any major issues with them.

The head judge positions are appointed by the mca president and they can only be president 2 consecutive terms. The head judges appoint their assistant head judges and can change them at any time. The judging secretary and classification head judge are also appointed by national head judges.

Anyway, don't intend to inundate with all the details, but I think the judges travel budget was on the order of $25k per year.

I would have to question what direction these folks want to go. I do know this, if they continue to upset the natives, there ain't gonna be nobody left to pay their dues.
