Tips on Replacing Wind Lace

DEL65

Of The Morons
I'm going to replace my original wind lace. Although it appears to be very straightforward, does anyone have any tips?

Do I need to worry about damaging or loosening the headliner?

Can I just pull it out or do I need to heat it or something?

Thanks.

It's so easy, even a caveman can do it! No issues with the headliner coming out or off, unless it was not glued in in the first place.

Fixed it for you.

It's so easy, even the owner of a coupe that lives in Modesto can do it.

I fixed it even more better!!!!! :dh

Hi Dan!! Wassup???

I'm glad to know that even I, a certified Moe-ron, will be able to do this project with a minimum of problems.

If you haven't already finished this task.....

Yes, I have a few tips.

Use a new razor blade to cut the windlace.

Internally, the windlace consists of 3/16ths inch wide pieces of metal that are connected to each other (barely) only on the closed end of the windlace. After measuring twice.... and comparing the length to the old removed piece.... bend the windlace slightly back on itself and use the razor blade to find an opening between two of the pieces of metal. The razor blade won't cut through the internal metal pieces, but it will cut easily between two pieces of metal.

You can use the butt-end of a rubber handled hammer to tap the windlace into position if you have any tight areas of windlace that aren't lining up easily.
