Welcome JAYS70

Thanks for the warm welcome! Hope to learn alot from the forums. Starting my very first restoration a 70 Mach 1, 351C, 4v heads and an FMX, so any comments or pictures anything really just lay it on me! Thanks again.

So far the wife and I have replaced both rear quarters, both door skins, floor pans, torque boxes and many other spots. Hopefully the engine and transmission will be gone through in the near future.

Looks like a good start for sure. Sounds like a good wife for helping you too....lol...or are you helping her?

Welcome aboard Jay. It appears that you've already knocked out most of the troublesome/time consuming rust areas. Out of curiousity, did you weld the ends of your rear valance to the rear of your quarter panels?

There's a pretty good sized contingent of '69-70 owners here and some good Cleveland knowledge. We should be able to assist you with anything you need. You'll love that 4V engine.... even in stock form it'll rock most other warmed over engines.

Keep your digital camera handy. We're a visual bunch around here! The forum has a built in gallery where you can load pictures and there's also a "members build thread" section to record progress on your car.

Again, welcome aboard!

Thanks everyone glad to be here! To answer your questions, I did weld the rear valance, the after market quarters from NPD were a great fit except where the valance goes. The originals had indentions for the brackets on the back of the valance and the new quarters did not. So I cut off the brackets and welded it. Probably should'nt have but I think it looks cleaner.

And yes I will keep the camera rolling!

Thanks again guy's!

Welcome to StangFix!

And I had the same problem when I did my quarters and OEM valance. I just cut that retaining bracket off of the valance and drilled holes in the valance (and matching holes in the QP) and ran carriage bolts through the holes in the valance - from the outside. Welded them up and ground the heads back off so that I would have "studs" to mount the valance to the quarter panel. I actually did 2 studs on each side so I could get the valance to draw up tight on the top AND bottom - not just the middle.

Well today I took my Cleveland to my buddy/engine guru, And much to our suprise we found that the main bearings and crank were in really good condition. And that it has the 4V quench heads, that's when he got very excited with the rebuild. I am going to bore it .30 over and put roller lifters on top probably with a mild cam. I've never rebuilt an engine so any comments, tips or tricks are welcome. But I will definitely be using the search button here. Thanks.

Jay
