Welding question

My mig came with the .030 wire. I tried a few welds and then got some .023. It along with the change to 75/25 and an auto darkening helmet made the difference for me... not that I'm good by any stretch.

Bill

But at least you can pretend you are........just like me :thu

The lucky ones get the car chicks that like driving old cars, don't whine about buying cars and parts and hope the kids grow up wanting to run open track events with Mom and Dad.

Here's mine trying her best to scare me -

Actually I did pretty well on the marriage thing also, 29 years, she likes old cars, and driving them, just my other stuff she kind of gets perturbed about--at least 2 fishing trips a year, boats, motor, snowmobile, guns, hunting,I have toned down last couple of years, quit drinking, also I do most of the cooking, fair amount of house work, almost all of the yard work, I guess that is only fair since I don't work!

regarding welding , I have a 3 phase 380 volt welding machine and use 0.030 wire ( 0.8mm)

Thanks for this thread. Thought I was having a bad day welding this morning. I kept blowing through the metal on the bottom of the passenger door. Couldn't figure out what the hell was going on with either me or the welder. Checked the gas,It's full. Wire speed, got a couple of pieces of scrap and tried to set it. No good. Sped up wire, nothing.Sped up weld speed, nothing. Friend called and asked if he could use it again next week. Said yes because he ran the wire out about a week ago and replaced the 10# spool that was in there. Just for the hell of it,I pulled the spool out and checked the label on it(It was up against the wall of the welder and couldn't see it.). .035. Damn. Went in the cabinet and dug out this 2# roll of .025 that came with the welder 15 years ago and threaded that up and off it went. Called my friend back and asked him where he got the wire. Harbor Freight,He figured it was all the same. It's my fault because I taught him how to use it. I should have also shown him the different size wires. At least he replaced what he used.
Off for the welding store tomorrow to pick up a 10# .025.

Y'know the brand of wire you buy can have an impact too... In a pinch I bought a 2# spool of no name / off brand wire and had nothing but trouble with it. When I got the Lincoln L56 wire back on it was remarkably back to the same old quality welding.
