Went in the ditch tonight---worst white-out I have ever been in!

It's nice convertible weather outside today.... here at least....and the boys can actually attend a fielding practice / mini-camp tonight with a guy we know who plays triple A in the Giants organization.

Remind me again what's so great about being stuck in the house getting cabin fever for months on end :shrug
Who said anything about being stuck in the house? Unless you are a total pansy nobody is stuck indoors. You can generally count the days a winter that one can't really venture out on one hand. The rest of the time it's just a bit colder than say fall. Nothing a coat can't fix. Winter gives the chance to do countless things you, for example, would need to travel to enjoy. Aside from just the beauty of the snow itself, we can go skiing (cross and down hill), ice skating, snowmobiling, sledding, etc. The kids can have snowball fights, build snowmen/snow forts and just generally have a blast. We "adults" get to go sliding around in our cars be it on the street or better, in an empty parking lot.

If you have never had the chance to live in a four season locale you have no idea what you have missed. Seriously. Those who complain about shoveling and such need to remember it's only a few times a year. Get over it.

My kiddos play year round baseball and they wouldn't trade it for the world. It gets cold here from time to time (froze my rear end off last night at the field with them) but it's nothing Under Armor cold gear won't cure.

Personally, maybe it's too many old injuries but I hate the cold. Used to like it when I was a kid but hate it now. Especially hate trying to go for a run in the cold....makes me feel like someone has my lungs in a vice.

My uncle graduated from Baylor with his masters years ago and then moved to Ohio to get his PhD. He earned his degree, met my aunt and got a job offer so he ended up staying in Ohio for about 25 or 30 years. However, pretty much the week after he retired they moved back to Texas....said he'd had enough of the cold / snow.

About the only thing I enjoy about the snow anymore is all the drifting practice...I mean car control I can get in. Having a circular drive does have it's winter advantages!!

There are a lot of people who love winter. I'm just not one of them.
Snowmobiling and ice fishing are huge up here in Wisconsin. Again, not for me.
I just don't enjoy winter at all.
I used to love building snow forts and having snowball fights as a kid, but I always preferred playing in the summer. Maybe now that we have our little girl winter will be a little more fun.

I can live with the snow, it's all the days that get below zero that kill me. When I get out of work at night and my car barely starts, my seats are like ice. It sucks.

Don't we go through this winter HERE versus THERE crap every year?????

Can't we all just get along? :roll

Besides if WE ALL came over to where YOU live YOU wouldn't like it so much. :skul :pbj

Well it's made it here. Now having gust over 50MPH and temps in the teens. Not a lot of snow on the roads, I guess the wind is keeping it blown off the roads. I have hit some ice though in spots and took a little ride. It's going to be bitter cold tonight......maybe in the single digits. Crap.......

I was thinking the same thing, but everytime we talk about the weather some smarta$$ has to chime in and tell us all about how warm it is there. :guns

And we just love it when warm weather people move here. We always need someone to laugh at when it's below zero and they actually think they are going to die. lol :sarc

Just because you couldn't hack it here you want to change the subject. I get it. :roll

Do we do this every year? I don't remember. But it seems a safer subject than many we dive into!

I left Chicago out of opportunity not that I hated it.

Where-ever you live, hey that's agood place to live. Its your choice.

I do remember skitching though....now that was dangerous and fun. When I got my own car I would slow for the kids who wanted to skitch. It was better that way and they actually thanked me when they finished.

I have driven in a lot of storms here in Illinois but this topped them all, I have never seen whiteouts that lasted so long where you could not even see the edge of the road for reference. Talk about eye strain! I could not believe how bad the weather hit me--I was screwed if those 2 guys hadn't stopped. I was no help as I was having trouble just breathing--these 2 younger guys stopped and put a ball hitch in my reciever and pulled me out with a strap--I knew them both --I will see that they are paid for this as I was very glad to see them!

I just found out the real ending to Rod's driving into the ditch.

Luckily a farmer happened by with his big old horse named Benny.

Rod asked for help. The farmer said Benny could pull his Ford out. So he backed Benny up and hitched Benny to Rod's 4x4 F-150 receiver.

Then he yelled, "Pull, Nellie, pull." Benny didn't move.

Then he yelled, "Come on, pull Ranger." Still, Benny didn't move.

Then he yelled really loud, "Now pull, Fred, pull hard." Benny just stood.

Then the farmer nonchalantly said, "Okay, Benny, pull."

Benny pulled the truck out of the ditch.

Rod was very appreciative but curious. He asked the farmer why he called his horse by the wrong name three times.

The farmer said, "Oh, Benny is blind, and if he thought he was the only one pulling he wouldn't even try."
