What did you get done on your Stang today????

wheels are boss 338's. couldn't pass em' up after seeing the price. checked online prices & took the best price to my local discount tire & they matched it. after selling my 5 yr old 17's , i moved up to these 18's/20's with much better tires IMO for only $250 more out of pocket, so i'm happy.

On the light blue 68 (that I took on the power tour)

* Realigned the pop open gas cap, it keep coming open when we would hit a bump in the road.
* Pick up new brake pads, the last day of the power tour, my old ones were really squeaking.
* pick up a new alternator, another power tour failure. The bearings were moaning.

On my dark blue 68

* fixed the rear drum brakes
* got an alignment
* while it was on the alignment rack, way the ball joint rubber covers were toast and need to be replaced.
* Drove it to work and enjoyed the new 355 gears.

Took a week of vacation time in order to get some projects done around the house AND on the coupe. The first few days it rained...no, it POURED! When we got some sunshine it was time to get busy! After getting most of my other projects done I got to work on the coupe...finally!

Today I got the left fender apron modified to move the battery from the right side. I've been working on it, but I finally got all the welding done today on it and the outside welds dressed. I also got all of the holes welded shut in the firewall that I wouldn't be using or need. While I was at it I got the brake booster swapped over from the late model V8 unit to the thinner 4 cyl unit. It spaces the master cylinder right where I like it. The V8 unit fit, but the M/C was about 1/4" from the shock tower. I then got my son to help me pull both doors off. First time they've been off since I bought the car. I have two other shells that I'll be skinning and then installing. After all of that I decided to crawl underneath and start the work on the underside. I got all of the welds dressed from the floor pan replacement. I then started stripping all of the old paint and cleaning it for painting. I got the rear section of the car done from the rear floor pan back pretty well cleaned and stripped. There's some areas I couldn't get into and will need to switch tactics. After all of that work today I was tired and filthy! I told the wife it was so nice to physically tired from working on the car versus mentally tired from it. Hopefully the burned out blues are officially gone!

p.s. No, there's no pics. I was just so worn out after cleaning up I was in no mood to walk in and the get camera. I'll shoot some tomorrow and post them on my build thread.

Mixed results in the garage today. Goal was to pull the transmission, replace the factory aluminum bellhousing with a QuickTime SFI certified bell, and upgrade to a McLeod Slik Stik offset shifter.

Got to use the lift at the garage where my buddy works. GOOD

Got the transmission out without incident. GOOD

Took a long time. BAD

Over 90 degrees. BAD

QuickTime bell did not require offset dowels. Lined up perfect right out of the box. GOOD!

Saved a lot of time finding out the bellhousing didn't need dowels by using the Browell alignment tool. GOOD!

(Not my pic, but you get the idea... bolt the tool to the crank, bolt up the bellhousing, if the 'donut' goes through the hole without interference, you're within .003" runout. If not, it's time for those offset dowels)

Discovered McLeod shipped me the wrong shifter! As in there's no way it's even for a TKO 500/600. BAD!

Discovered the pilot bearing in the crank was kaput. BAD!

Lucky we caught it now! GOOD!

Posted pics and descriptions on my build thread for the stuff I got completed the other day. Today was spent mostly on parts for a friend's car (shhhh..don't tell anyone, I want to surprise him!). I did a little more work on my coupe though. I got the original driver's door stripped down to the shell. The door is junk but I have another good shell, same for the passenger door. I still have to strip that one out. I also have skins for both "new" shells. Though not TOTALLY necessary, they'll actually save time on bodywork for the replacement shells.

Finished re-striping the Mach.

For those of you that don't know, our dear friend Tarafied dubbed my car "twistedbossmach" because it carries design elements of a 69 Boss 302, a 70 Twister and it's a real deal Mach 1.

So "Twisted" actually was born from that. I used pictures of a 70 twister as reference. The width of the stripe is made up, the mach 1 logo was changed from the 70 lettering type to the 69 type and moved to the front fender instead of the back of the door. The Ford oval was moved from the front fender to the rear quarter, the funnel cloud is very close to the original but the lettering was changed from a block type letter to a rounded letter and reads twisted sixty-nine instead of twister special. I added the cobra jet stuff to the front fender and blacked out the rockers with vinyl as well.

I tried to capture the feel of it yet make it obvious that it's not a real twister. Which being a 69, should be obvious anyway. I guess it's a spoof in a way.

Changed out the speedometer gear. When I was doing 40, the speedometer said 60. I went from a 19 tooth to a 17. I wanted a 16 but Dallas Mustang did not have it in stock. IT was not enough. Wish I had gone to a 15.

Looks great.

Now get ready for all the guys who will come up to you and tell you why it's not right/a fake. :nut

The only thing that would make it perfect, if it was in my garage......

Pulled out the back 1/2 of the interior... :wtf

To make a long story short...

When I bought the car 1-1/2 years ago, there was a "ding" on the rear quarter panel, that's bugged the crap out of me...
You can see it about 8" in front of the taillight:

FINALLY found a good PDR guy I trusted...
An hour (and $60) after he started:

Now, I just need to finish cleaning the interior and get it re-installed for a show Saturday. Those big hatchback side panels are a bitch!

Still no progress on my Mustang, but I made a big step towards the goal! My STi was eating too much money (and gas...17mpg for a 4-banger!) and I didn't have enough extra to set aside for the old steed. I decided I only need one muscle car, so I traded the STi for the new BRZ. Now I have a little fuel-efficient corner carver and can concentrate on the Mustang.

I'm also moving next weekend and will finally be able to get the 'stang back in my own garage so I don't have to make a special trip to work on her. That sure makes a difference, as I'm sure many can relate.

Here's the new lady...

How'd you manage that? I thought they had a waiting list for those rigs?

For me it is more like what has my car done to me. After pulling the engine I am just about done putting everything back together. I was putting in the #8 spark plug last night and had it finger tight.

I reached behind the brake booster with a ratchet to snug it down when I felt a scratch on my pinkie. I accidentally hit it with a sheet metal screw sticking into the engine bay. Well the little scratch was a bit more than that. My pinkie got filleted about an inch and a half wide open. I should have headed to the ER but a dr and nurse live across the street. They hooked me up with some butterfly bandages and wrapped it up. I then went back out and finished tightening up the plug and then called it a night.

had a babysitter for steph for a couple hrs today, so got the trans yoke shortened & the driveshaft that i painted sunday installed. had my boy stop by for a few mins, so with his foot on the pedal & some help from sluggo via text, i think i got the hydraulic clutch bled & working. still have a little pedal adjusting to do as full travel on the slave is when the pedal is against the toeboard, but should be an easy fix.

now if i can get the issues fixed with the rear brakes & how to get them adjusted, i should be about ready to go on a test run pretty soon.

I've been watching this thread for weeks now with nothing to post. I just wanted to let everyone know that I should have something to post on Monday. That is, next, I mean, this, I mean the 25th of June. I have nothing more to say. :sm_NTA

Well I got the exhaust put on Tuesday. I had the local exhaust shop do 2.25" system with magnaflow mufflers. I was originally going to have flowmaster 40's put on, but changed my mind when I got there. I don't want to the car to be too overly loud, as this is more of a cruising car. And it is at the garage right now getting a few different leaks fixed. This is something I would have normally done by myself, but being I am only a month out from my back surgery I am not supposed to be doing to much of that stuff at the moment. Once the leaks are fixed it should be good to go for the summer.
