What the second amendment means to Texans

Not just what the 2nd amendment means to Texans, but what it "means"....period.

Don't you find it strange that only the law abiding citizens are the ones targeted (pun intended) by these restrictive gun laws? Enforce the laws against the criminals and let the rest of us defend ourselves.

Enforce the laws against the criminals

We don't "enforce" very many laws in this country.

Murder is a life sentence, but somehow a life sentence is equated to 20 years and down to 14 w/good behavior.

WTF?

It should be real easy.... if you commit a crime with a gun you serve 20 years without parole. It's not my fault that you made a stupid decision.

The attached link is the headline on our local newspaper....

How the fuckle are you the "most wanted" man in the area in 2004, are captured in 2005, are sentenced to prison for "assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury" and then four short years later you're the lead suspect in a murder investigation?

Our big problem is that we feel sorry for people..... why? The people commiting these crimes don't feel sorry for us. Prison does not "reform" criminals, it temporarily gathers them. As long as we let the lawyers "protect us" from criminals, we're screwed.

I don't know about the rest of the country, but here in Texas you can obtain a permit to carry a concealed weapon. There are certain places you cannot enter with a gun, even with the permit. A few years ago, here in Austin, a guy and his girlfriend went downtown to a resturant to have dinner. After dinner they returned to their parked car to find a thief inside their vehicle. The guy hollered at the thief and the thief took off running. The guy chased the thief for about two city blocks, then pulled his concealed weapon and shot the thief in the back. The thief died in the street. Clearly the guy with the gun was in no danger and he had stopped the thief from stealing his property. The guy just decided it was his right to become the police, district attorney, judge, jury and executioner. While the thief should have seen some prison time, he had the same rights you and I have and he was denied those rights by a cowardly bullet to the back. This is the downside of the issue that give fuel to those who want to take our right to own and carry a concealed weapon. If you carry a concealed weapon, you should not let the power it gives you go to your head. Otherwise, you may be the one that ends up in prison.
