WTH was I thinking?

I've always HATED running but about 3 months ago started pretty regularly. Took about 2 weeks to mentally learn how. Typical route 3-4 times a week is a 4.5 mile hill loop. Ran it twice a couple times, ran 10.5 flat a couple weeks ago, who knows why, but today joined a couple guys at 6am and ended up running 12.3 miles in a hair under 2 hours. Mostly flat but some hills. My calves are killing me, which they don't usually do. WTH was I thinking and whyTH do people run? Anyway, lost about 20 lbs over the last couple months so that's good. On a good note, my Upward football team had their first game today and we obliterated (supposed to be no winners/losers) the other team.

People come in my store all the time for running shoes and as I tell them about the different types they ask if I run. I laugh, and tell them I haven't been chased in years. I would probably drop dead if I ran more than 10 feet.

It may sound crazy, but I need to start doing it again. I used to HATE running. My favorite saying was "I ain't runnin' unless someone's chasin' me". When I joined the Border Patrol I had a change of heart at the academy. If the weather didn't allow us to run (lightning storms), we'd be stuck on those damn Aerodyne bikes for a solid hour. I quickly learned to LOVE running! LOL

p.s. For those that think the bikes would be better, you'd need to understand our workout. The first thing you did was reset the odometer to zero. Then you switched the meter to work effort. If you're familiar with that, then you probably realize most folks workout at about work level 7. HA! Level 6-7 was our RESTING level!! If you've ever done it at level 11 (at timed intervals), you'll realize WHY I hated them. At the end you switched back to odometer. You had to read at least 20 miles or you'd be making it up as everyone watered down!

I need to get back running and weigh training. Back when I had a manual labor job, I had no problem running 5 miles almost daily and lifting. After years behind a keyboard, I've gone all soft and lazy.

On a high note, I did walk the dog 2 miles the other day. Usually its only a mile. After that, he tries to drag me back to the house.

I use to run but the newest medication has cured most of it except for a dribble.

LOL :thu :thu

I try to ride my bike but my a$$ hurts after 1/4 mile. :stu :stu

I bike 6 miles round trip for work each day and love it. I feel great after a good ride. I also run once a week about 1.5 miles. I used to hate it but it's growing on me after a few years. I do it just because I want to stay in some sort of shape.

Forget running. Too hard on the body. Get a bike and ride instead. You can get the same workout value and none of the impact stress on the knees, etc.

Try a quarter of a Viagra Tablet.
It wont stop the dribble, but it will stop the dribble from landing on your slippers.
And as a bonus, you wont roll out of bed anymore!

I've been running for over 40 years. Each decade I used to drop my distance and and up my time. Now it's every 5 years. I'm 65 and run 5 miles 3 times a week. In the winter, I'll average 7:45 to a 8 minute mile; in the summer 8 to a 8:15 minute mile.

Bought a treadmill almost 3 years ago. I am up to just over 1000 miles on it. I had to replace the floor on it last year, it was made of particle board and I used plywood for the repair. Holding up so far. When I was not working I would use it 3 to 4 times a week, now I am only doing 5 miles on Sunday. That is walking/running for 60 minutes. I really want go for a run during the week, the mind is willing but the body is week. :hs
