Where? Your trip is going to take you from NorCal to SoCal then over to lost wages.

NorCal: near the ocean 70's to 80's
NorCal: inland 90's to 100's
SoCal: Beach and Orange County 70's to 80's
SoCal: inland 90's to 100's
Las Vegas: Hell or Hades take your pick

Ok Ladies and Gentlemen.

Flights are booked. :bowdown

I land in SF on the 2nd August and leave LV on the 23rd. I am also hitting NY from the 23rd to the 27th.

Now I need to make a plan. :yah :yah :yah

OK Johnny, great news.
Now let us know how long you will be in the SF area and what day you would like to meet up.
We'll get the cars together for a nice cruise to the coast.
If ya want the Bullitt tour....I can do that too....albeit sans 67.

Johnny:

From a visitor's perspective, there are many sights and activities that typically find their way onto your list of "must see" places. As residents, many of us dodge some of the more popular tourist centric sights mainly because we have already seen them and prefer to enjoy off-the-beaten-path destinations and activities. To help make your trip to the Golden State memorable, tell us about what YOU would like to do/see/try while you are visiting Northern California. No guarantee we will do everything on your list, but give us a clue so we can plan accordingly.

One comment on the August temperatures in Nor Cal: With morning or afternoon coastal fog, it is not uncommon to see temperatures dip into the 50-60 degree F range until the fog burns off so dress in layers. Inland temperatures tend to be slightly higher and more stable as they are influenced less by the ocean breezes.

Jeff,
I hear what you are saying and thats part of the reason i am talking to you guys. We will want to do some of the major tourist stuff like Alcatraz, The Hollywood sign, The Casinos in Vegas, the Grand Cayon, etc however local knowlegde and going off the beaten path is priceless to us.

We want to see some amazing places/views, meet local people, eat good local food, see what the locals do. Find some nice small B&Bs/hotels in places that are not too crowded.

How do you know your from SF?

You have never been to Alcatraz.
Thinks its not worth getting under your desk for any earthquake under 6.0
Can park a stick shift on Russian hill
Never leave the house without a jacket, even in July.
Avoid fishermans warf
Have fallen into spreckels lake
Saw laughing sal at playland at the beach
Ate at the doggie dinner
Don't own a pair of shorts
Get lost in Oakland
Know the neighborhood Jerry Garcia grew up in
Eat French bread, never call it sourdough

good schedule.

We might have enough time while you're here to straighten you out after spending all that time with the NorCaler's.

See ya in August!

Visit the Mustang Ranch outside of Lost Wages. Don't forget to bring your significant other...

Watch your time going from Mammoth to Yosemite. Back-up at National Park gate may take a while sometimes.
Also check out Mono Lake at the east side of Yosemite. Take Hwy 120 east from Hwy 395 for about 2 miles and turn left to the Lake view area. Go further east om Hwy 120 to see the lava ash field east of the lake, further and there's a nice pine forest and then on to the high desert.

If you go north from Mono Lake on Hwy 395 to road 290 (turns to wavy gravel road) right to the old ghost/mining town of Bodie. This is a State park now with lots of buildings circa 1800s. A very wild and dangerous town in its day. You can tour the mining area too above the town.

This looks to be a very Chevy Chase 'vacation'.....There's the 'Grand Canyon kids, now get in the car' :sarc
