it freakin blows. So much emotions, crying like a baby, swear he's here and waiting for him to be around the corner. It's tougher than I thought

Sorry to hear. Loosing your best friend is truly very difficult!

So sorry to hear. It's not an easy thing. Been there myself and I know your pain. You have my deepest sympathies.

I'm sorry, John. I got two cats that will pass soon...don't know how I'm going to handle it.

So sorry man. I was just there. I had to put down my 16 yr old cat back in December due to kidney failure. I was a damned wreck for two weeks. Lost my best bud of 14 years. I still find myself looking for her under my desk where she'd sleep.

My wife says it's going to be a long time before we get another dog. Not sure I'm on that boat with her.
I have to agree with you about getting another. The last dog we lost was fighting lymphoma and losing the battle. She was like one of our children and the loss felt the same. When we knew the end was coming near the wife and I had been discussing getting another dog, as much for us as to fill the void in her "little sister's" life (a puppy that had grown up around her). The day after her suffering ended we got a new puppy. We didn't intend to get an new puppy so soon, but it simply worked out that way. While initially it may seem like a cold and callous thing to do, it helped the healing greatly. Even after 1 1/2 years know we still miss our Sadie. The new puppy did not and will not ever replace our beloved lost one, but instead she became a new addition to our hearts and family.

Sorry to here dan.. We waited 20 years before we decided to get another dog. I wished we would have gotten one sooner. This little girl is a big part of our life now. Don't wait too long to start sharing your life with a new companion.

When Sandie died, we decided we wouldn't get another and just love and enjoy Max until her time came.

My daughter and her hubby got a cute little chocolate labradoodle they named Toblerone (Toby). He is so smart and so cute. The had to move in with us and Toby's energy gave Max a lift. I think it added at least a year to her life.

One day the kids found Murphy. A five year old chocolate labradoodle rescue. We met him and he has been my best friend since.

My point is getting a new dog just happens. The best dogs I've had picked me not the other way around.

Yes I miss Sandie and Max but my new best friend has a huge part of my heart. So much so that there isn't much room left for any other pet.

So sorry. We lost one about two years ago. Hit me a lot harder than I expected. Fortunately we have two more, but now one of them has cancer.

Sorry for the loss of your mate. When we put our last German Shepherd down we said we wouldn't get another dog. 3 week later we got a call from a friend who had come across a 2 1/2 yo boy that needed a new home.
Max was in training for the Air Force Military Police when he fell off the 8' high climbing wall and fractured his pelvis. He healed fine but the rules said he couldn't continue so he was sent back to the breeder where he sat in a kennel for a year and only came out for 1 hours exercise a day but no socialising with other animals. Well what else could we do but give him a new home. He has some real issues in public as he is so protective of the wife, daughter and granddaughters, but he is as gentle as a lamb with them. We found that bringing him into our home really helped with the loss of Cash.

Sorry for your loss John. We had to go through this several years ago and it is truly one of the most gut wrenching things that we have had to do. I feel for you Man.

Marcel, the "old man" of the family (about a year before he passed at 11) and my very best friend -- with his tormenter/little sister, Lucy.

Dan - I know some won't agree, but losing a pet is just like losing a close friend or even a loved one as far as I'm concerned. The hole they leave in your heart never heals up...but you move on.

I have a little cemetery on the hillside below our bedroom window. Nine graves, and every one of them contains a piece of my heart.

The best medicine? For me, it was a new furry buddy.

Glen,

You made my day. I miss my dogs terribly. I have decided to wait until I retire in the next 24 months to get another friend.

One day, I will have more friends who won't care what happens each day and will provide unconditional love, regardless of how much a butthead I am.

What a handsome couple they were!

Shepherds, as wonderful as they are, just don't live long enough. But they are the best while they are with us. Marcel was a Belgian and Lucy, of course is a GSD. Both smart and charming just like your buddies.

Porsche on the left is a female and was of the first litter. Staark who is the male and is on the right, just didn't care (like most men). Third litter he was from.

Porsche figured out how to open our front door..... Scared the crap out of me.

Staark died from internal bleeding and I did not know of this until I landed in Dallas on a business trip.

Porsche obtained Bone cancer, we amputated her right rear leg to get another 7 months out of her (selfishly, but Christmas and other events were cherished by her too), until it metastacized into her lungs.

One day, I'll find new friends but until then, these two were my Laurel and Hardy.
